I don't really game much or belong to any gaming forums so I figured I'd ask here.... Does anyone know when the PS3's will be available for pre-order? And from where?

    Thank you.

A while back I talked to the people at Gamestop about it but they said "not until they have a price and date set." Seeing as E3 is upon us and the details of the PS3 launch have been released, I'd call up your local game store and talk to them about it. I think you should be able to reserve one.

How much did you have to put down?

I'm planning on purchasing one for the sole purpose of re-selling it on Ebay come christmas time.... The Xbox360's were going for $800+... I can only imagine how much the PS3's will go for, being is that such a low quantity of units is being produced for the NA Market...

Someone who doesn't take advantage of other peoples desperation or ignorance.

    I don't expect you to understand. :)

ah...........i get ya. lol yea u would have to be pretty deperate to pay that much and to take advantage of that seems kinda....unethical i guess?

They are taking advantage of, and profiting from people who are desperate for one, or people who don't know better.

There may be nothing wrong with that legally, but morally and ethically, it's no better than stealing.

No one likes being ripped off.

It's things like this that destroy places like eBay and the internet in general.

A PS3 is not a vital commodity... I'll be buying one and providing that unit to a whomever wants it via Ebay... No one is forcing them to bid, and I don't drive the final selling price, the individual bidder does.... Like another poster said, it's an investment.... If I can afford it, I'll pre-order 2....

People who bid on Ebay are adults.... If they want something, they decide how much they want to pay for it... Some people frankly have money to throw around... And if their kids want a PS3, and money is no concern of theirs, they don't mind paying $1,000 for what normally costs $600

Not all people who bid are adults, and even if they were, it doesn't give you the right to rip them off.

All you are doing is taking advantage of others.

You wouldn't like it, but you can't see past the dollar sign.

The amazing part is, it's such a low act, and it doesn't bother you.

One of the advantages of being faceless (and gutless) online.

insomniac, how are we ripping em off? all we are doing is buying a PS3 then reselling it on ebay. we dont force the price on it. we just let ebayers bid watever they want. so in that respect, if they bidding falls under the retail price, thens it bad of us and good for them. if the bidding goes over the retail price then its good for us, and maybe (if the bidders think that way) its bad for them.

so we, as the sellers either win or lose, make or break. the buyers win cos theres no losing in that they gain a PS3 watever the price maybe.

at the end of the day, we are the ones risking it by investing in something that may gain profit or not.

Easy, you're profitting from their ignorance and desperation.

If you weren't making money, you wouldn't be doing it.

Would you like to be ripped off, no.

What on earth are you talking about? Does Ebay force you to bid on things you don't want? Does Ebay force you to pay more money than you decide you're willing to spend? No.....

How is anyone getting ripped off? You're getting exactly what you pay for, and you as the bidder, decide how much you want to pay for that.... Now if I shipped them a box of bricks in a PS3 Box, that's what you call getting ripped off.....

I buy lots of beer-mirror collectibles on Ebay and sometimes I have to pay more money for a particular item because other people are interested in it and bidding... That's how auctions work....

Are you familiar with Ebay? What ever happened to free will and accountability... Don't want to pay more than retail for my PS3 come Christmas time? Don't bid on it... If you can't afford it or don't have the knowledge to pre-order one for the holidays, you're out of luck and it's as simple as that....

More like a load of rubbish.

There are laws against companies price gouging, which is exactly what you're doing.

Just because the person is freely bidding on it, doesn't make it right, regardless of how you try to sugar coat it.

You are taking advantage of peoples ignorance, desperation and vulnerability.

Would you like it if someone bought all the petrol (or whatever), waited till there was a glut, then sold it for double?

What you're doing is a low act. You wouldn't like it, and it's not fair to expect people to be experts on every subject and know every price. You don't.

Just because something is legal, doesn't make it moral or ethical.

It's this sort of thing that ruins eBay and gives it a bad name.

But you don't' care about that or others, all you care about is the almighty dollar and yourself.

Again, that says a lot about the sort of person you are......

then what are sony doing then? arent they doing the same thing?

we aint a company, we are just ppl who are making an investment

wont happen anytime soon. besides by the time that happens, the ppl of this world would have found alternatives to petrol.

and hows that? we merely auctioning off our item. and thats what ebay is. a auction site....

  22. Insomniac

No, Sony aren't doing the same thing. That's why they have a recommended retail price, which is required by law and can't be exceeded.

What investment, you're taking advantage of people. If you were a company, you would be dealt with by law.

And I know eBay is an auction site. Doesn't mean it's right to rip people off.

Price gouging? Price gouging is setting a fixed, inflated price for a vital commodity... A commodity people have to buy in most cases.... How can you compare oil, a vital resource, to entertainment electronics?

When I sell my PS3 I will start the bidding off at $1.... The people bidding will determine how much it sells for... If it sells for $1000, that's my fault, right?

If people are so ignorant, vulnerable, and desperate, maybe we should all live in a communist society... If you can't trust them to shop on Ebay, how can you trust them to buy any consumer goods in any walk of life?

I'm sorry but you've failed to make a valid point because you are completely disregarding the way auctions work on Ebay.... I don't determine the price, the consumer does, and no one forces the consumer to bid or buy... You've completely disregarded the consumer's choice & decision... It's their money, not yours... If they have the resources to spend $1000 on a hot commodity, that's their own personal choice, that they alone are responsible for.... No one forced them to do that... For you to label all people who overpay (pay more than retail) for high-demand items as ignorant, desperate, and vulnerable is wrong and unfair....

All right y'all..I think you've all made your views quite clear about the buying and re-selling aspect so lets drop it here and now and get back on topic before things get out of hand. There was already one post in this thread that was WAY out of line and I really don't want to see anymore from someone else who may decide to jump in. Thanks!:)

Does anyone know when the PS3's will be available for pre-order? And from where?

    Happy bidding everyone.
