I have purchased a Corsair PSU HX620w from
E-Tech Sillicon Vally ( Disrepitable to say the least)
They sent me this PSU without the modular cables.
I sent for and recived a set of modular cables from corsair for a hx620w psu.
They are not the correct cables they are 5 pin inline connections to the psu
The psu I have is 6 pin 3 top and 3 under.
Do I have a hx620w psu or has the sticker been replaced from a lower wattage psu?

Can you help me identify this psu?

I would send it all back. Was this an open box purchase? I have used several Corsair PSUs and all came in a sealed Corsair box. I would also contact Corsair. They probably will not help you, but they may help this from happening to someone else.

A postive note Corsair has helped as much as they possably can they replyed and do not have any of that type of connecter and i have been placed on a list to get a set.
Corsair is outstanding in customer service as they have sent me the 1st set just for asking and will send the 2nd for the same cost $0.00

I belive I am going to escalate a claim with pay pal and try and recover my money just going to buy the psu from new egg ...
    new in the box.

I will be submitting a complaint to the california attorney general with a copy to the goveners office.

maybe that will stop it from happening to someoine else as well when they see the ratings online.

    :confused

    Seller's Transaction ID: 9SD81755KF550971W
    http://www.e-techsiliconvalley.com/index.html

They sent me a PSU bubble wrapped in a cardboard box with only the power cord. Its a modualr PSU and needs the cables for the cd/dvd ....
Corsair sent me a set of cables but they were the wrong type and now i have to wait for the correct cables to see if it even works.

this was Pay Pals reply .....

You have chosen to escalate your dispute to a PayPal claim. By ending
communication with the seller, you are asking PayPal to investigate the
case and decide the outcome. As part of our investigation, PayPal reviewed
any communication you may have had in the Resolution Center.

Our investigation into your claim is complete. As stated in our User
Agreement, the claims process only applies to the shipment of goods. It
does not apply to complaints about the attributes or quality of goods
received. Therefore, we are unable to reverse this transaction or issue a
    refund.

    and in the same e-mail
PayPal does not tolerate fraud or illegal activities. Your complaint has
been noted in the record of the PayPal user you reported. If we find this
user has violated our policies, we will investigate and take appropriate
action. If this occurs, you may be contacted in the future about the status
    of this complaint.

in addition the revies from alot of people are bad unless they are in califorina

In looking at that site, it appears they sell "refurbished" and "as is" components. I suspect you did not pay full price - and perhaps you got what you paid for. Not sure you will get any relief from PayPal.

Well, if listed as new, the by all means, you have grounds for a complaint. Keep us posted.

only thing left is to wait for the cables from corsair and see if the psu works at all. from the review posts i have seen about them its more then likly its doesnt and thats why i didnt get the cables in the first place to delay the process long enough for them to get away with it .

    live and learn

That is really too bad because Corsair PSUs have earned a good reputation.

If you ordered it as an eBay transaction (Auction, "Buy It Now" or an eBay online store) you can also file a complaint under eBay's Buyer Protection Plan.

If your PayPal payment was charged against a credit card, contact the bank and attempt to dispute the charge based on the seller's inaccurate description of "new" and/or the missing items (the fine print on the back of your monthly statement explains how). If the web site's description of this "new" item hasn't changed since you ordered it, print the page(s) as a PDF or paper printout in case the bank or PayPal requests them.

Most card issuers will initially do a "chargeback" that removes or freezes the amount you were charged from the merchant's account while they investigate. This may motivate the seller into accepting the PSU as a return for a full refund.

Sadly, the chargeback option only applies to funds charged to a major credit card. This option is not available if PayPal took the money from your existing PayPal balance or a checking/debit card account.

Good luck on solving the problem.

    all are correct
Corsair has been great in trying to help
It was a Pay Pal from my bank account so I have no protection even though paypal says they do protect you but only for the shipping which is not protection.

No longer have a paypal account....
will use a credit card next time...

there is no solving the problem but to buy another psu from newegg.

I have reported the fraud to the local police department but for $100.00 I dont belive it will go anywhere.

I will report this to as many california leagal departments as I can but being in NY its not like I can fly to california and throw it threw there window or anything.....

Don't beat yourself up over this. Sadly, your local PD has no jurisdiction over a California seller. A letter to the California AG with a duplicate copy sent to the BBB office nearest the seller's location are the only two direct contacts that may help. As noted in my previous post, include a printout of the web page(s) if possible.

Although PayPal is convenient, I went through a similar situation with a $50 defective laser toner cart. two years ago. PayPal wasn't much help; it wasn't until I contacted my credit card company for a chargeback the seller took the issue seriously.

Your posting here was a good move. Although I wouldn't spend too much time on it, if it makes you feel better you can go to merchant review web sites (Yahoo, ePinions, etc.) and post this experience.

Finally, believe in "Karma" (what goes around comes around). Fly-by-night merchants will never realize goals of long-term growth or profits. Depending on how a company treats their customers, word-of-mouth advertising such as this will eventually make or break them.

you can go to merchant review web sites (Yahoo, ePinions, etc.) and post this experience. And you can add your dissatifaction to the other complaints they received at ResellerRatings.

I note the problem with these sites is often the great reviews are written by people who work at these companies. So you have to beware.

It is true some companies hire "shrills" whose sole job is to search the Internet and attempt to skew overall scores by posting fake positive reviews. There are, however, a few tricks an individual can use to get a more accurate picture of a merchant or product:

    • Does the review site indicate if a review is from a verified customer (such as Yahoo's merchant rating feedback)?
    • Do negative reviews often cover a similar issue (item description, show shipping, etc.)?
    • Do the reviews have details of a customer's experience? "This place ROCKS!!!" is an example of an ambiguous review a shrill might post.
    • Does there appear to be a pattern of several such ambiguous positive posts immediately following one negative post? If so, it's a red flag.

The last two points were shared with me (in "how-to" form) by an Internet marketing consultant whose specialty is spin doctoring reviews and social media comments.

I've sat here and read so many similar horror stories about mail-order sales, that I'm justified in my own decision to NEVER buy computer parts via Mail-Order. OH, I do buy little things, like cables, fans, ink carts, etc., over the internet, but nothing Major.

I want to walk into the store, pick up the part in the original factory box, read the spec's and the warranty policy and pay for it at the checkout. I prefer stores with at least a two week over the counter, no questions asked, replacement policy.

I have found the "Antec Earthwatts" PSU's to be of very good quality and they are sold right here in my local "Staples" stores.
And I never have to worry about if they are Refurbished or customer returns.

Just a thought, from an old Computer Tech.

    Cheers Mates!

Well, there are a few Internet stores I do a lot of business with and I have no problems buying from them. These include MWave, Newegg, and ZipZoomFly.

And of course, you have a much bigger selection on-line.

I have had to return a few things because they were DOA or damaged during shipping but none of the companies gave me any hassles in doing so. Most do, however, make you pay for the return shipping, but all pay for shipping of the replaced item. And of course, when you've been waiting for something to arrive, it is never fun having to wait even longer for the replacement.

I even bought a big screen TV from B&H with no problems. I never heard of the delivery company that actually brought it to the house, but they brought it in, set it up, made sure it worked then offered to carry away the trash (I keep my boxes so I did not let them cut it open or carry it away).

That said, for keyboards and mice for my personal use, I want to touch and feel before buying.

The decision to buy online is often based on where you live. In Houston, I am lucky enough to have a choice of several reputable "brick and mortar" computer parts superstores with selection and pricing that rivals Internet purchasing.

When I lived in Mobile; however, it was a different story: There was only one mom-and-pop PC parts store that had a marginal selection. Finding the specific items I needed locally was often impossible.

Given the choice, purchasing locally is a better option even if the prices are slightly higher. In the event of a DOA product, it saves the cost and hassles of shipping the items back and the wait time for the replacement. Directron (the local merchant I deal with most) offers a one year instant in-store RMA on most defective product without having to purchase an extended warranty replacement plan - a major plus when a client needs the problem fixed ASAP.

If I have to order online, I always use a major credit card for protection. In the rare event of an issue, it gives me both a bargaining chip (legitimate threat) if the seller doesn't play nice and a legitimate weapon to protect myself in case things get out of hand.
