It appears the new systems need at least a 350W's PS, but not all PS's are equal. I would seriously consider a PC Power and Cooling or OCZ solution. Take into consideration future upgrade plans (ie need for ATX12 1.02/PCI Express and possible dual core and SLI dual vid cards etc.) If you plan future H20 cooling you may need to up the capacity. The new OCZ 600W pretty well has all the bases covered as does the PCP&C 510W Deluxe. Just a thought!!!!!

If you went for watercooling, I'd get a new power supply for that. Most kits come with their own supply anyway.

600W is probably excessive, appart from perhaps a dual CPU setup with several HDDs (3 or 4).

antec trupower are good PSUs. 250W is a bit low. I'd go for at LEAST 400W, 500W would be more than enough to scope for upgrades.

Goldfish Agree the 600W is over kill for the current system in discussion, but there are major changes with the new systems. The OCZ 600W comes with a 24 pin that has the detachable 4 pin for current boards (eliminating the bulky 24-20 adapter wiring most are using). It also comes with the VGA mobo pin for PCI express boards requiring it (Looks to be necessary for SLI capable boards. In addition, it has 2 not 1 additional mobo 4 pin plugs for the mobo's that will require those (probably the dual core) as well as special VGA 4 pin connectors for vid cards that are regulated and insulated and provide the heavy power draw fluxuations the high end cards are pulling. On these areas the OCZ 600 exceeds all other (even the 510W deluxe PCP&C) PS's as far as future proofing. I guess you just have to look at the potential upgrades you may plan and purchase a power supply that will meet those requirements.

I guess so. But since that board uses current wiring (not the new ATX power plug).

TBH I've never used OCZ, are they expensive? I need a new power supply for this machine (a surge has fried this one, its on its last legs  )

Yeah, the 4 pin slide off connecter adapts it to the current board connector. Not too expensive for what you get $199 (the PCP&C 510 runs $222). It runs quiet and looks good as a plus with green LED fans and adjustable line pots.

You my want to visit PC perspective .com and see there is some apparent quality control issues with recent Antec PS shippments. At least something to be aware of and buy from someone you can get good RMA service.

Do you think you could link me to a page about that? I'm afraid to say that website isn't very navigatable, and doesnt have a search function to speak of.

Sorry should have copied the link, but now I can't find it again either. If I find it I will post back. The Antec had a power problem that burned the mobo 12V connector pin. The main point was to get one where you could return it if you had too. The poster had found others that had had similar PS problems with Antec recently?????
