I've got about 50 publisher 2007 documents. Yesterday, when I looked at them 10 had become .MDI files. I could no longer open them with MS Publisher 2007 or any other program I could think of. I just got gibberish or they wouldn't open at all.

I also noticed that whereas my .pub files average about 1,000 kB in size these strange .MDI files average 50 kB, except 2 which are around 250 kB.

These are files that I'd been working on just the other day along with others that stayed .pub.

What happened to these files? And, is there any way to recover them? (I doubt it:()

    Hi

MDI is another Office format, not very used or at least I've never used it in the many years of using Office.

What I would do is to copy of one the files as a backup to a new folder, then change its extention to .pub (may have to in Folder Options > View is untick "hide extentions for known file types") and see if you can open that file with Publisher, if yo ucan backup copy the rest and change the extentions and test.
