I am going of to college and my parents are going to buy me a laptop ^_^.
I was planning on getting a laptop with an Intel 64bit (640) CPU and would the cpu work properly if i pulled it outta the laptop and into my desktop.. I have LGA775 and EM64T combatiable so compatibaly would not be a problem... but would some feautues such as power saving be set on the processor and mess up my desktop?

Why are you doing this? Killing a $$ laptop, just buy the cpu from newegg

I don't meant to sound rude...but that seems way out there to me!!!!!! Just take the laptop like it is and save the money and buy the processor you want for your desktop!! Besides that...laptops are an avsolute booger to get torn apart....AND it will void whatever warranty you have!!!!!

What ever you do...not only does the motherboard have to support whatever CPU...but you have to make sure that they are the same socket!!

have to agree with Roger... why mess around with a laptop to get the CPU out when you could kill it and have no laptop.

Unless your going to be doing some supercomputing the 540 is still powerful enough, plsu the advantages of 64bit are not widespread at present with only a handfull of apps actually supporting 64bit.

just keep your laptop and save up some money if you want a new cpu for your desktop its not really worth it or so i think
