Pulsating network connectivity when playing Diablo 1 over IPX/SPX

Im not sure this is a network issue.

2 Windows XP Pro based PCs connected by CAT5 TP cable through a switch over the IPX/SPX protocol (Diablo requirement - i've not found a workaround for this).

Everything works as it should until the other PC connects (ingame). Then Diablo starts lagging in short bursts. 1-3 lags each second. When the other computer disconnects the lagging stops. What makes this strange is the fact that the lagging interval is consistent. Maybe some kind of protocol mishap or something?

PS! I've closed most of whats possible to close through the task manager so I've basically ruled out software issues (though it might be possible that some program is doing this).

    Any suggestions?

    Hi!

How did You get to work Diablo with Windows XP over IPX?

I've got IPX installed frametype set and so on and when I start multiplayer game I can't even see created game on "guest" comp.

Ii've read numerous forums and main problem is that Diablo does not see the created game.

If the problem only exists when the second computer is attached then it could be a network card issue. You can try and update the drivers for the NIC, or try another NIC in that machine to test this.
