Should I use PULSE WIDTH MODULATOR for my CPU Fan?

    Whats the Pros/Cons?

    NO!

CPU fans are designed to run at a certain speed.
Running them slower, like to reduce noise, will cause your CPU chip to run HOT and it may fail in the process. The fan itself may also fail, under PWM.
They are NOT designed for that kind of operation.

Also, CPU fan speed is monitored by the motherboard. If the fan speed fails to come up to the prescribed RPM level, the computer can "shut down" to prevent damage.

If your CPU fan is being noisy, it may need to be cleaned and maybe even re-oiled. Those little bearings are only good for just so many hours of operation, with the factory applied lubrication.

I just refurbished a "Thermaltake" cpu cooler/fan that I installed for a customer back in 2000. It was literally 'Howling' !!! I disassembled the fan-heatsink and thoroughly cleaned both the fan and heatsink. Then I injected some high grade machine oil into the bearing cavity on the back of the fan, with a hypodermic needle. After applying a new dab of heat sink grease, I reinstalled the assembly into the now 8 yr old PC and the fan ran as quietly as it did the day I installed it eight years ago.

There is NEVER a replacement or work-around for good system maintenance.

    Good Luck,
