Anyone having issues with COD4 Multiplayer and Punkbuster? I keep getting a BSOD and after analysing the minidump it turns out to be Punkbuster everytime. I'm running the game on a new Dell XPS 630 (quad core 6600, 2.4 ghz and 800GT card) with Windows XP.

BSOD errors are "page fault in a non page area" and "IRQL not less or equal")

Anyone else having this problem -- and is there a solution?

    cheers, all

Do you have a program like rivaTuner? punkbuster can think this is some sort of hacking program so upgrade or uninstall it and that may help

    Hey Astroglobe.
I got exactly the same problem here and... the same computer.:cry
I tried with Evenbalance support. They gave me some instructions but anything works.
Did you found any solution? :yum

    Hi Yaku

Have you analyzed the minidump through the Microsoft debugger? I just want to make sure you are having a problem with Punkbuster and not another issue with the XPS 630.

I had two separate problems playing COD 4 when I first got the system. The first was a persistent BSOD that turned out to be a driver issue with the optical driver. Once I updated the driver this problem was eliminated.

Then I got a series of fairly intermittent BSODs that were due to Punkbuster (I ran the minidumps through MS debugger after reading a step by step on Major Geeks for which I thank them :cool) There will also be an Event Viewer ID which should be numbered 1003.

I then updated all the graphics drivers on the 8800 GT and then re-installed COD4 and added all the previous patches to the game.

So far so good...I haven't had another BSOD so I'm keeping fingers crossed,

hope this helps and that you're trying to enjoy the 630 (which is an awesome if flawed product)

    cheers, AG :wave

Absolutely sure, punkbuster is the problem:

    My ticket submited to Evenbalance:
    YAKU:
I'm having BSOD while playing Call of Duty(R) 4 - Modern Warfare Multiplayer: PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA 0x10000050 (0x81a35008, 0x00000000, 0x80506e34, 0x00000000). Running the Offline Crash Diagnostics from Microsoft, it is telling me that the problem is Punkbuster: BucketID: 0x50_PnkBstrK+2aca

The computer is a brand new Dell XPS 630i. I have no problems with any other game i play (Valve's Day of Defeat Source, Team Fortress 2, BF2, Crysis, and more..) nor using any other software.

Note #2: Could you please check whether you have one of the following programs running on your computer:

    Powerstrip
    RivaTuner
    ATITool

If you run one of those programs, please close it and join a Punkbuster enabled server. Please let me know if you still get the lockup/freeze after closing this program.

    Hi,
I don't have any of those programs running on my PC

    Hi
I have been playing sunday and monday for about 3 hours each day in non PB protected servers and everything seems to be fine withouth PB envolved.

Please check if the Windows Update KB917422 is installed on your computer. If so, install this hotfix from Microsoft: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/924867/

In addition, check if you have installed the Nvidia Network Manager. There is a issue with the Nvidia Network Manager dll that corrupts the UDP stack. Enabling PB when the game has launched can trigger this crash.

Also running the game in the Windows 2000 compatibility mode might help. To do so right click on the game executable and create a new shortcut. Then right-click on the newly created shortcut, select properties and go to the compatibility tab. Select Windows2000 as compatibility mode.
    ==============================

No Nvidia Network Manager here, installed the hotfix and running in compatibility... Result: 2 weeks fine and then Booooomm.. BSOD again :cry :banghead

I will try your "recipe". Thanks a lot for your response.

    Hi Yaku

Well we have exactly the same problem and the same BSOD codes...at least there are two of us out there!

My fix didn't work, I got a BSOD running COD4 multi last night. There is also a new patch 1.6 that's just come out but I doubt that adding it will make a difference.

I'll try this hotfix and see what happens, thanks for the info :)

    cheers, AG

someone else has suggested that it could be the McAfee anti-virus system that comes standard with the Dell XPS 630. This guy uses Avast and doesn't get BSODs running COD 4 multi...havent tried it yet but i'm thinking about it....

I use ATITool on my PC to tweak fan speeds (Prevents overheating). I've never had a BSOD as a result when playing PB Enabled CoD 4 servers.
