What OS? What model computer. What exactly did you do? And what are the performance symptoms? What has this got to do with Hijackthis? Don't put antivirus back on until it is running well.

Can you do a clean install? If you have the original Windows Install Disc, do this:

Note: All your files will be deleted in the process. Make a backup of anything important.

    1) When you first boot up the computer, it should say something like Press __ to open Setup. Do that.

    2) Find something that says boot order. Change it so that the CD drive comes before the Hard Drive.

    3) Save and exit.

    4) Put the Windows Disc into your computer.

    5) After the computer company's splash screen it should say "Press any key to boot from CD....." (press any key)

    6) When prompted, press Enter to install (not R for Recovery Console)

    7) Follow though, and make sure to format the partition. Installation is pretty easy if you know how to read directions.

    8) Download all your drivers from the manufacturer's website.

Just went back and read all your posts about this slow computer under different threads. Did you ever resolve the router issue? Noticed that you never replied to the thread that you started in Malware Removal! A lot of the problems that you describe can be attributed to a poor internet connection, malware, or even trial programs that were installed on the computer when purchased whose trial period has ran out and are trying to update themselves and can't.

Was Norton something that you purchased separately, or installed on the computer when you purchased it?

    Hope this helps! :)

router problem mis AOK-- no more trouble with it. I solved the malwarae problem by doing what I was told to do step by step
Norton was installed on the computer but I uninstalled it and bought a newer version.

Two things will slow down this computer: running Win7 with under 2GB of RAM and installing Norton.
Also running at 1.4GHz, this appears to be an older computer.
You can not speed up the processor but you should add more RAM (if this is possible) and replace Norton with something that doesn't use as many resources.
Is there a reason why you are running Win 7 instead of XP that was installed when the computer was new?

    :confused Windows 7 or Xp??

Update browser to what, version IE 8 maybe?
Is that when the problems began? You can uninstall IE8 in the add/remove programs, does that solve anything?
If yes, the fix is relatively simple.:wave

Yes, you've got a lot of stuff running. If you rebooted in safe mode with networking, you'll see how much you don't need. I'd recommend you do this and print out what is in there.

For a start, I'd disable corel, dell support, dia, dvd launcher, google desktop, itunes helper, mim boot, quick time, sun java updater, and super anti spyware.

Unless the last is a paid for version, it doesn't give any real time protection.

All of these programs will still work when you call on them, it just may take a second or two longer to open.

Some of the programs I listed above are notorious for sloggy performance, usually anything connected with music.

Disable the above, reboot and let me know if there is an improvement.

Then there are some more steps to speed improvement.

It would help to know what all is going on in your system, so I suggest we use MGTools.exe to take a look. You can download it here:
    MGtools

If your downloads go to your desktop, just double click on My Computer and drag the superman icon directly onto your C:\ drive. Then when you have C:\MGTools.exe, double click it and let it run to completion. Then attach the C:\MGLOgs.zip

    His does look good.

That's a program that I just saw Halo recommend to somebody, and I see it is fairly new.

How do you determine what the program does to stop these entries. Also, on some Vista machines, the startupcpl won't install, so I've also used startup standalone.

And I've got to add, aside from malware, this is the area where I have found the most good could be done for a 'puter's peerformance. I've had people tell me their box works better than when brand new. Usually when I first look at their list, we are talking 25 to 40 entries, 3 to 4 minutes boot time, and all around sluggish. I usually can make full boot in <i minute.:wave
