I recently had to reformat due to sp2 After i got everything working now when I try to run virus scan (Nortons 2006) system reboots. So i uninstalled all of Nortons thinking it was a conflict somewhere. I installed Panda 2007. Same problem. I have went thru every think I can think of. I can run scan in safe mode. I have deleted all temp files etc. Any help out there? I have a Hp Pavilion 725n windows XP.

Actually i had already did that but I wanted to make sure and I did it again. Heres the strange thing I scanned each drive seperately and had no problem. But as soon as I was finished it rebooted. Like I said i can run a scan in safe mode also no problem. This dang thing never just reboots until I fool with a scan of some sort.  Its kinda like when my car was acting up and I told my husband "it only happens wwhen it rains'" at which he rofling. Ah but it was a moisture issue so it did only happen when it rained,,,,,lol

Hey Nicole, Welcome to MG's .....will request that this thread be moved to the software section where more will see and respond .....in the meantime, go to event viewer and check for errors in both system and applications ...post back the error codes that correspond with the situation...:)

Try rebooting(restarting) in safe mode, then go to control panel/ system / advanced Tab/ startup and recovery box/ settings button/ sytem failure and uncheck "restart on system failure" ( take the check out of automatically restart box ) , and check the Write a system event, and the Admin alert boxes (check "send admin alert"). This will force a BSOD on the next crash (freezes/restarts = crashing) that posts the Stop Error Code. On the next crash write down the exact Stop Error Code and post that exact error here back on this thread. (While you're waiting for a reply, you can put that error code in Google search, and in the MS Support Knowledge Base (KB) = http://support.microsoft.com/search/?adv=1]http to check it out.)

Also go to your device manager (devmgmt.msc) and check the properties and look for anything suspicious and check that the settings are where they should be.

Some programs seem to stop working after you install Windows XP Service Pack 2 = http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=842242
