Pwned by power

I am having an extremely low-level but critical problem. I just put in a new motherboard, but on hitting the power button, I ran into the problem. The internal fans will run for about a second and then cut out, no POST beep and no video refresh. I went to my A+ class and asked my teacher, she said "The mobo is most likely shorted to the case." Got home, disconected all the periphirals, pulled the mobo out of the case and laid it on the mobo's glossy plastic box, also pulling out the PSU and placed it on the table. I try to power up, but I'm still getting 1-2 seconds of power. What am I doing wrong? This power problem is the only low-level hardware issue that befuddles me to this day. Am I still shorted to something? Is it a bad PSU (the PSU is new)? a bad mobo (also new)? busted processor? What do you guys think?

Well, since the final post in that thread says "I'm getting RMAs for all my parts", it really doesn't help me very much. I'm at the same stage that corn dog was. Thanks

 

Have you actually tested all parts one by one in another computer like corndog... have you tried using fibre washers not only on the top of mobo but underneath as well.. have you been fully grounded with wrist strap during all processes... passing on suggestions from a friend of a friend who is a com technician... keep us informed

 

I've done all that stuff except for the fobre waher thing. Where can I get some of those? And, to date, nothing has changed, till having the same problems I was a week and a half ago.

 

Go to your local Computer retailer and he should be able to give you a few..

 

Can you post the specs of this computer please,with a description of EXACTLY what is plugged into where,A photo of all the parts set up out of the case would be very helpful

 

Is there enough/too much thermal paste on the die of the processor?? Is the cpu fan on backwards (believe me...it is EASILY possible to put the fan on backwards!!)??

What are your specs??
