After a lot of shuffling/upgrading between laptop and desktop. I have decided to replace my 2.5 year old Quad Core Gateway FX desktop (Q9300 @2.5GHz, 4GB RAM, Win XP 3, Nvidia discreet GPU) with a (roughly) equivalent laptop. (I am tired of installing the same apps, plugins, and preferences into two different machines.) The lappie I am looking at is a 2.3GHz 2nd Gen Core i7 with 8GB RAM and Win 7 and Nvidia discreet GPU as well (iBuypower). Can I expect to see equivalent performance? (Better? Worse?) Thanks in advance.

If the laptop has a 7200 rpm hdd as the desktop, I assume, does, AND the GPU's are roughly equivalent, then you can expect roughly equivalent performance.

    2.3 Ghz?

I have a i5-2500k 3.3 Ghz but runs at 3.7 Ghz with Turbo.

Link me to the computer you want to buy

Thanks for the replies, people. Here's a link to the item at iBuypower:

Again, it would be spec'd with a 2.3GHz processor and 8GB RAM with, yes, a 7200 RPM 750GB drive. I was just hoping that with 2 generations up from Core 2 Quad, the drop from 2.5 to 2.3GHz would be no big deal (?). And the Nvidia GPU would be the same with 1GB of VRAM. Though I don't know about the performance difference between PCIe and mobile versions...
