    Hi! I just installed QEMM97 on a Win98SE computer and am having problems First, it started the boot process but stops just after QEMM loaded. Then, it crashed on me and displayed the QEMM error message. Following are the CONFIG.SYS and MSDOS.SYS files:

    CONFIG.SYS:
    Code:
    lastdrive=o:
    DEVICE=C:\QEMM\QEMM386.SYS RAM ST:M SUS:N BE:N
    rem DEVICEHIGH=C:\STACKER4\STACKER.COM
    rem DEVICE=C:\STACKER4\SSWAP.COM
    rem DEVICEHIGH=C:\STACKER4\REDIRECT.BIN
    rem DEVICEHIGH=c:\windows\COMMAND\EBD\RAMDRIVE.SYS /e 16384
    rem DEVICEHIGH=C:\STACKER4\SSWAP.COM
    rem DEVICEHIGH=C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\DRVSPACE.SYS /MOVE
    DOS=HIGH,UMB
    shell=c:\windows\command.com /e:3072
    rem shell=G:\DELLPC\JPSOFT\4DOS\4dos.com /p

    MSDOS.SYS:
    Code:
    [Paths]
    WinDir=C:\WINDOWS
    WinBootDir=C:\WINDOWS
    HostWinBootDrv=C

    [Options]
    BootMulti=1
    BootGUI=1
    DoubleBuffer=0
    AutoScan=0
    WinVer=4.10.2222
    DblSpace=1

    What could be wrong?

    Not sure on this one.Windows 98SE is safe to say a dinosaur of an operating system.Running MS-dos and windows 3.1 was fun.

    I do not know much about this QEMM97.But from what i understand is,That it's a memory manger.Just like Iobit's Smart Ram 3.0.

    This might help you...

    I found this option here.

    QEMM 7.01 - 8.01

    Windows 98 Second Edition removes the following drivers from the CONFIG.SYS file during Setup:

    Dosdata.sys
    Dos-up.sys
    St-dbl.sys (7.01-7.04)
    St-dspc.sys (7.5)

    After Setup, if Windows 98 Second Edition fails to start:

    1. Refer to the \Manual\Technotes\Readme.txt file
      (packaged with QEMM) for information about
      specific software and hardware incompatibilities
      with QEMM software.
    2. Check Stealthing Options. Change ST:M to
      ST:F on the Qemm386.sys line in the CONFIG.SYS
      file, and then restart your computer. If Windows 98
      Second Edition fails again, delete the ST:M or ST:F
      from the Qemm386.sys line in the CONFIG.SYS file, and
      then restart your computer.
    3. Run QSETUP and turn off DOS-UP, Quickboot,
      and Stealthing Options (see previous step).
    4. Run the OPTIMIZE program.

    I heard that QEMM is incompatible with DriveSpace 3.0. I use DriveSpace but not in DOS mode. I thought I disabled it in DOS mode. Apparently not. :(

    BTW, I don't remember where I got this program. :(

    I thank you, Eldon, but I think I see the problem: DriveSpace seems to be loaded on statup in DOS mode. :(

    That wasn't it. After tweaking, I found the problem to be the RAM switch: disabling it seems to get QEMM to work. However, I need UMBs. :x I tried EXCLUDE=E000-FFFF, and it didn't work. The driver stops working as soon as it finishes starting up. However, the system still responds to key presses: CTRL-ALT-DEL works. If it helps, EMM386 doesn't work with the HIGHSCAN switch, and the OPTIMIZE works until the final optimiztion step.
