Quake 4 problem

I have had Quake 4 for some time now and it works great on my setup. But just recently it doesn't work. I think it may have been something that I did but i'm not to sure what.

The problem is when I start it up. It works fine up untill the point where the Quake 4 picture disappears and the screen goes black. After the screen goes black it turns grey for about 4 seconds and then closes.

I have reinstalled it 3 times and still the same thing.

My setup is:

AMD Athlon 64 4000+ 2.4Ghz OCed to 2.7

eVGA GeForce 7800GT 445.5/1.1

2Gb of RAM (2Gb x 1GB)

Dell E173FP 17" LCD Monitor

I'm thinking it has to do with the game trying to start up at a resolution that my monitor can't display but I don't know how to change that...

try resetting your hardware to stock speeds, overclocking can sometimes mess things up like that.

 

A lot of people have reported that updating their soundcard drivers worked as well.

 

Ok well I tried both of those but still no luck...

I was wondering if there is a way to get the game to open at a certain resolution. Because I think that MAY be the problem.

 

Have you tried to update your video card drivers?

 

yeah...I think? At the time I started having this problem I was using the 81.98 display drivers but now i'm using 84.20.

 

Maybe try installing this?
