Qualcomm to Buy Atheros for $3.1 Billion

From the WSJ:

Qualcomm Inc. agreed to buy Wi-Fi chip maker Atheros Communications Inc. for $3.1 billion, as the suitor seeks to fill a hole in its chip-making operations.

The semiconductor makers, which have been partners for years, expect the all-cash deal to close in the first half of 2011 and modestly add to Qualcomm earnings in fiscal 2012. Atheros Chief Executive Craig H. Barratt is expected to join Qualcomm as president of its networking and connectivity ...

Hi

Qualcomm not a bad company and they do may the really nifty Snapdragon processor for mobile phones that works good, so who knows what they can develop with having a WiFi company like Atheros in their portfolio.

Im fairly excited to see what comes of this myself. Should be a very decent merge and hopfuly we see big things come from it.

Just thought this complemented this thread as Microsoft now have a version of Windows working the ARM chip or on the likes of the Qualcomm Snapdragon CPUs found in mobiles, which opens up a raft of possabilities in the near future
