    Hi Everyone:

I have a question regarding Ad-Aware and Task Manager.

When I run Ad-Aware it shows 25 processes running.
When I look at Task Manager it shows 30 processes running.

Could one of you all talk to me about this?

    Thanks so much!

    maggie,

i think that ad-aware is showing you a differant sort of proccess

i am not really sure how to articulate this, maybe someone will correct me
but basicly when you are running task manager
it is showing all programs/processes that are useing cpu right then

with adaware, it is most likely showing you cookies and things like this
ad aware is for detecting and getting rid of programs scipts cookies
that are made to send you annoying adds or porn or whatever

i am not sure why adaware uses the term processes (maybe someone that knows more on this can answer that) but they are too differant things

i am pretty sure of that.

normaly i would say i don't know enough on this to put a post about it except that no one else has answered you and i pretty sure this is the answer

use your interenet explorer privacy options to delete all your cookies
run adaware again, and it will show allot less than 25 proccesses i am pretty sure

No!!! Ad-aware shows the running processes. Not cookies! The differences are probably due to the fact that Taskmgr counts itself and multiple instances of other items (like iexplore.exe, svchost.exe) whereas when you ran Adaware you probably did not have taskmgr running and Adaware may only count certain process once. I cannot check right now, I am not at a machine running Windows!

    To Green Newbie

    Hi Green Newbie:

Thanks so much for responding to my question.

It makes better sense to me now, after reading
    your comments.

I had thought that Ad-Aware and Task Manager
were counting the same processes and I couldn't
figure out why there was a difference in the
    number of processes.

I'm running Opera Browser. Haven't had it too
long so am not certain how to remove cookies
    in Opera.

    Thanks again for your response.

i think Chaslang knows better than i,
i responded because no one had responded to you yet, when i use
adaware i just scan and getrid of all the junk it picks up,

but then i noticed if i just wipe out my cookies from IE it doesn't pick anything up.

i guess i don't understand why adaware would show all the processes, \
isn't it made to get rid of ..... adware .. so why would it show things like basic windows processes that are allways running and even programs y ou have running liek IE, i will have to check this out when i am on my machine.

thank chaslang , it sounds like i was just confuseing you :p

Once you run Ad-aware if you click on show log file it will tell what processes you have running

Just wanted to tell you that I ran Ad-Aware again and was able to view
and save the log, as you had suggested. Thanks!
