I know CCleaner has a file shred option, but I just noticed (OK, not "just noticed", but I just remembered to ask about it) that there's a "wipe free space" option in Options > Settings. How do I wipe my free space with CCleaner? I mean, I see the option is there, and I've had it enabled since I installed it, but how do I initiate or start the free space wipe?

The screen shot attached below should illustrate the feature of which I speak...

If checked in Advanced Options it will wipe. Or, Options >> Settings and check the drive. Just check it and run CC, If you don'twant to clean out the other options uncheck all and leave wipe checked.
    Cheers..

    Hi dlb

Just be warned it could take hours to run that cleanup depending on the HDDs ticked and how large they are.

On the CCleaner screen, check the Wipe Free Space check box. Run CCleaner as usual. It will take a long time as it cleans all of the free space on the disk. When complete, uncheck the box. That's it. Do this however often you deem necessary. I do it roughly every two weeks or so.

The newer versions of CCleaner have included this, as well as a couple other useful options. One is 'DNS Cache' , which will flush the cache and can improve Internet performance. The other, under Firefox in Applications, is 'Compact Databases'. This removes dead wood from the Firefox databases and improves performance, assuming you use FF. I do not leave either of these checked myself, but do run them both weekly or so.

I have CC set to run every 4 hours using Scheduler, with the basic and several advanced options checked, and most of the options checked under Applications. Works great--hope that helps...

I second this... Also the creator website is flagged red across the board by WOT, for what it's worth...

My question is, if this is no good and the author is not in good standing, then why does MG link this?

I don't see how it's a ripoff however, it is still free.

maybe there's a reason why CCleaner used to be named crap cleaner, and the crap cleaner listed is has the naming rights? ( i don't know the rules about free software names) either way, i use CCleaner.

There seems to be some confusion here. The link you posted is not CCleaner. MajorGeeks.com has two versions of CCleaner, neither of which has anything to do with your link to Crap Cleaner. The Slim version of CCleaner is at http://www.majorgeeks.com/CCleaner_Slim_d4191.html
The Standard version is at http://www.majorgeeks.com/CCleaner_Standard_d5125.html

The author of CCleaner is Author: Piriform Ltd. The author of the "Crap Cleaner" you posted is Evonsoft.

Interesting on the evonsoft site, there is a glaring typo. I suspect the title was to be awards and instead says "Adwards". Under that there is an icon for Gizmo Richard's freeware collection.
I'm looking around his site to see if this program is mentioned.

it isn't under the two registry cleaners.

I do however see CCleaner listed!

I think I'll send an email to Gizmo Richard's alerting him to the fact that evonsoft might be using his icon as an award when no such award exists.

Sorry, I edited you instead of replying. Dont you dare come here with your 4 posts and make accusations about this. How do you rip off a programs whos name does not exist? Its been called CCleaner for years. It loks like, and performs nothing like, Ccleaner. Watch yourself hurling accusations without merit. http://www.ccleaner.com show me where it says Crap Cleaner on their page?

No, we DONT have two versions of Ccleaner, so lets get the facts straight before we assume. Crap Cleaner changed their name to CCleaner years ago, EVERYONE I know calls it CCleaner for some time now, including the author. They dont own the name Crap Cleaner, they dont use it. Someone got smart and decided to use the name. For those of you still in middle school, thats smart marketing. We debated it, but see nothing wrong and allowed it to be listed here. As policy, we don't list software with the same name as another program, but simply put the name Crap Cleaner is no longer being used by anyone else.

Frankly, I am bored to tears with people who trust us then expect u

Idiot, anyone who has used Ccleaner for years knows they are also refered to as Crap Cleaner. Check Crap Cleaners reputation on Sitaadvisor if you don't believe me. Here's the link and I can't believe MG would put such CRAP (pun) on the site.

Your the only idiot in sight. They dont call it Crap Cleaner (with a space) they call it CCleaner. They didnt copyright Crap Cleaner. Crap is copyrighted for lots of uses. If the author takes action, we will take notice, until then.... take a walk somewhere else, start your own file site and call us when you learn a few things. Been doing this for about 15 years, aint my first rodeo. Not sure how you thought this was going to end, but you were wrong.
