Your computer uses a 3.4ghz P4 socket 775, your chipset supports a maximum of 800mhz FSB so in theory you can upgrade to any Intel chip that has these specifications, there are not that many they topped out at 3.8Ghz so upgrading may be more trouble than it's worth, especially if you have to pay a lot for a cpu and have to spend a lot of time searching for a used one but that's a question for you.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_Pentium_4_microprocessors#Pentium_4_Extreme_Edition

If your bios supports it a P4 3.8GHz extreme edition should work,it will draw roughly the same amount of power as your current cpu so power shouldn't be a concern.

To find out for sure which cpu's your computer supports you need a cpu support list for your motherboard but I cannot find the model of your motherboard after a small search but if you find your service tag you can enter it at the sony support page and find more accurate specifications.

Alternatively download and run this program, let it analyse your computer, click file at the top left, copy to clipboard and attach with your next post, delete your computer name with notepad if you wish.

ok, I sort of dont want to post all that info, if you need me to give yu info, I can do that, depending its not personal sensitive. I can give you specs for sure, sorry. The motherboard is Intel Corporation D915GRO (J2E1). I would just like somthing that would hopefully be at least a little quicker than this thing. Sme processing takes forever. This computer was gotten because i definately could not afford a new one, Im just trying to get extra parts sort of on the cheap. I want the PSU, processer to be the bestout of everything. The graphics card, I want to look at, make a decision depending. I would like for the PSU and processer to be the best they could possibly be, just to keep the machine tip top.

Yes sorry I should have said delete your product key and personal info from speccy.

Unfortunately I cannot find any information on your motherboard, it would appear Intel no longer list the support information or it was never made public due to being made for Sony.

There is a 90% chance the cpu will be supported without being absolutely positive.

As I said in my first post you will not get much more performance from the fastest chip you put in there, probably 10%, so your cpu intensive apps will take 10% less than forever,if this is all you want then that is your decision you can purchase the extreme edition cpu I linked to 'if you can find one on ebay' or similar and install it, try and get it from somewhere that accepts returns in case of an incompatibility problem, this again will be really hard as not many retailers will guarantee used components, you pay your money you take your chance if it doesn't work your out of pocket.

Computer hardware is not like cars which can be kept tip top, they have an expiration date and this one has expired it's around 7 years old. IMO no money should be spent on computers like this it doesn't make any economical or practical sense.

For a $200 outlay you an get a motherboard, memory and cpu bundle that will make your cpu intensive tasks 5-10 times faster, you will then be able to upgrade the video card /power supply to make the most of it.

thanks for the help. I may just try to see about your decision. Think there is anyway you could guide me to maybe try on a bit by bit basis? Motherboard and so on bundle? Im kind of a novice, but would like to know.

If you post how much you want to spend and exactly what you want the computer to do or the kind of performance you expect there are plenty of people on here who can advise on an upgrade bundle.

A bundle or combo is basically a group of components sold together at a cheaper price than they can be bought individually, a basic bundle consists of cpu, motherboard and ram but can include everything to build a fully working computer, if your on a budget these offer by far the best value.

If you decide you want to buy a bundle start a new thread Titled 'Combo upgrade advice' you'll receive many more replies.

Include how much you wish to spend, what you want a computer to do and the country you live in or the stores you are able to buy from so members who live in your country can advise you on current bargains.:)
