Question about definitions ?

My computer has recently started running really slow, so I found this website and did the steps in Major Attitudes basic computer maintenance post. It has helped a little but not much. Anyways one of the Programs I downloaded was Ad-Aware SE , when I first click on it , it says ....

Your definitions are 732 days old. Would you like to check for updates now?

Is this something I should do ? Also, if I should do it, is it something that I could possibly mess up ? I don't really know anything about computers and I am afraid of doing something I don't really know anything about . I just want to fix my computer not mess it up even worse

If anyone could help me it would be very much appreciated.

 

ALWAYS keep your definitions current!!!! You can't possibly mess anything up by updating the AdAware definitions. Essentially, the definitions are a constantly updated database of virus/spyware/malware info (basically a list) that Adaware uses as a reference when running scans. If your definitions are 2 years old, any malware newer than your definitions will not be recognized by Adaware, and will not be removed. So, ALWAYS update ALL antivirus/antispyware definitions! If the program doesn't have auto-updates, be sure to check at least twice weekly; maybe more often if you spend alot time on the internet....

I second that! theres no point in having any Antivirus or Antispyware programs running if the definitions are out of date.
