I was looking to upgrade my processor and I was wondering if my current motherboard can support a Core 2 Duo. Its socket number is LGA775 and I am currently running a P4 3.0 ghz. I went to ECS's website and looked up tested cpus with my mobo and they don't have Core 2 Duos listed because they weren't out when the motherboard was launched. Any help would be much appreciated.

Well, first which new Core 2 Duo are you getting?
If it's that old, it probably doesn't support the 45nm CPU architecture.

If you're getting a 65nm, I don't see any reason why your new one wouldn't work.

Motherboard Chipsets can and will dictate the "instruction set" the CPU can send and recieve, if your Motherboard Chipset can't "support" this capacity then the MOBO can't use the C2D!

Looks like its time for a new motherboard thanks for clarifying.
