I'm always on the look out for different DVD burning apps (esp. free ones ;) ) and came across Final Burner on the MG front page a few days ago. It works great- BUT... I used it to convert an .avi to standard DVD format, and then burned the resulting files to a DVD+R. All went well. Slow, but OK. Anyway- the DVD plays perfectly in my PC's DVDROM, but on my home player, it's black & white and looks like the VHold on the TV is off, the top of the picture is about 2 inches below the top edge of the screen. The sound is fine. Any ideas? Could it be the aspect ratio, or bit rate(s)? Maybe the DVD+R (I usually use -R)?

It's not really a big deal 'cuz I have a bunch of other apps that do the same thing (free apps), I'm just curious if it's something I can avoid doing in the future.... any help, ideas, or suggestions will be appreciated. THANX!

I've always found it is hit or miss with .avi, it's even worse if its a downloaded file from a P2P or web site. You never know how the file was compressed or written or even what codecs were used.

I'm guessing at this but, it probably works fine on your comp because of the amount of codecs you have installed. No such luck with your DVD player. Also newer DVD players spin faster than the older ones making it harder to read the info on a burnt disk.

Call it a coaster and try again. ;)
