question about IP address

hello geekers, i've got a question about ip addresses. just recently , i visited a website www.grc.com which is supposed to test my computer's vulnerability. it sent back a message identifying me with the ip address 67.165.154.47. after checking my records,i found that my internet provider (comcast) gave me that number also.and yet when i go to a command prompt and enter ipconfig , my ip address is given as 192.168.0.1. did i do something wrong when i configured my computer? and why are these numbers different?

If you are connected to a router that would explain the 192.0.0.0 or whatever IP Address. 192 addresses are private addresses and are usualy given to the PC by a router using DHCP. HTH

 

Yes there is something called a public ip & a private ip. Because ip addresses are not infinate ISPs, ect .. use NAT (network address translation). So your "local" or private ip is the 192.x.x.x and your internet / public ip is the other. And NAT keeps all that straight to ensure your little packets find there way home from the big ole internet to your pc.
Side note: If you wanted some one to connect to a webserver/game server or remote to your pc - they'd need the public address.
