I bought a prebuilt desktop i was considering if i upgrade my memory to something like 8 gb if it would need a new psu?

How many new internal things can i add before i need a new psu? I am assuming adding a new HD or video card will need a new one with more watts but for memory is this the case?

    Hi

What are the hardware specs of your PC and the wattage of the PSU that you already have? (you could link us to the page that lists the pre-build PC)

It can sometimes be the case with pre-build PCs that the case is designed to fit a specific PSU from that OEM company and fitting a larger new off the shelf one may not work without a new case and that would also void your warranty.

What Windows version do you have and the info needed is eg. Windows 7 x64 (or 64bit?
As if you do not have a x64 (64bit) Windows 8GB of ram is useless as x86 (32bit) Windows cannot use past 4GB (generally with overheads it can only use 3.5GB)

The model is an acer aspire M3910

It has 2 gb of ram, 500 gb HD, an integrated graphics card, win 7 home premium 64 bit.

Not sure how many watts the psu is, but the case is moderately bulky and when i bought it i did notice it lacked a power switch (for he the psu) that stuck out of the case unlike my old tower which had that feature.

I guess i would just like to know if adding 4 or 6 gb or more memory would require a psu upgrade. I believe my motherboard can support up to 16 , though i heard that was '' unofficially'' whats the difference?
