hello all, i've just bumped my cpu last night from a 1.25 amd xp to a 2.07 amd xp 2800+ (i didn't set the jumpers correctly when i built my comp a year ago) and i'm concerned that heat might be a concern.

my specs of my comp here loceted at:
    http://www.opeology.com/eclipse/cpuz.htm

my PC Health Status in my BIOS tells me that my CPU temp is 63C. i was wondering if this is okay for an AMD XP 2800+?

also, i moved my fans in my case today, where now the front 2 are intake, and the back 2 are extake (is that the right term for that? lol). i did this in hopes that it will cool it down a bit more than my other fan configuration (1 in 1 out for front and back).

thank you in advance, and have a good day :D

that sounds abit hot to me ... id suggest a good air conditioner ... my temp is 78f that's like 25c i think .. i stink with celcius

a good AC? lol, elaborate. i don't think i have the money to put an ac in my computer, and plus i think those are a bit big ;)

and is your computer an athlon xp 2800+? cuz i know with more power and with amd the processer normally runs at a higher temp. .. . . . ^_^

mine is a celeron and they do run cool ... but i do notice a 10 degree drop in fahrenheit temp when i have the AC on ... and i dont mean put it inside the computer (ive seen pix of that done BTW not a bad mod) just one for your room .. if that's possible ... course you have to be able to tolerate "macy's" summer time ACing by that i mean cold or temperate if you are like me

i was born in Florida. i hate the cold. lol, and plus i'm basically poor as it is, i couldn't afford the electric bill for an extra AC. anything other than that i could do? i have a silent boost (from www.thermaltake.com) heat sink, but i haven't put it on yet. .. .. maybe that'll help? i dunno, but any other suggestions would be mucho appreciated ^_^

Most XPs will run untill 85 Degrees C. For me your temp would be high. I like my processors cool. ;) I have a Volcano 11 cooler on my XP2400... and im at a steady 30C. IMO your temp is a little high. Especially is it is the idel temp.

Make sure you have good air flow, and all your cables are tidy. Try and get round IDE cables. That will help air flow dramaticly.

Your fan setup is good. The front fans draw in cool air, and the rear fans suck out the hot air away from the processor and Heat sink.

To sum it up your processor will run at that temp. If you are considering overclocking, or want to have cooler temps for the heck of it then you will need a better cooling setup.

I would suggest a Thermalright heat sink matched with a nice 92mm fan. For a cheeper budget, i got my Thermaltake volcano 11 on Ebay for 11 bucks. It keeps my processor really cool.....it is noisy when its set on high, but that is only for gaming, and the sound drowns it out. ;)

Just saw that you have a slient boost. That will work very well, and keep your room quite too. :)

Make sure you get some Arctic Silver to use rather then the pad on the HSF. You could see a 3-5C difference in temps in most cases.

No big surprise there. Heat transfer is largely dependent on temperature differentials, not absolute temps. You're not going to get your CPU temps down to the same figure with 80F room air as you will with 72F room air.

All other things being equal, if 80F room air gives you a 54C CPU temp (129F), you'll get a 49C CPU temp (121F) if you can cool the room to 72F. (Trouble is, all other things usually aren't equal!)
