Question about Opera and bookmarks

As a die-hard Firefox user, I hadn't used Opera a whole lot. It's always been installed on my PC as a 'back up' browser, but it saw very little use.... until yesterday. The new Opera 10.51 is the fastest browser I have used to date... the fastest EVER!! What I want to do is to import my Firefox bookmarks in to Opera. Is this possible???
    :confused

    Thanks!
    :)

Don't have 10.51 installed yet but in 10.10 you would goto Bookmarks > Manage Bookmarks > File select "Import Netscape/Firefox Bookmarks...". At least that's how I did it, as I recall.

open bookmarks. choose manage bookmarks. on the toolbar that appears, choose file. then choose import netscape/firefox bookmarks. I hope you enjoy what I think is the BEST browser. Jerry

I won't use Opera v10. It now uses your computer as a server.
    http://unite.opera.com/develop/faq/
Someone installed it and asked why his firewall questioned Opera wants to act as a server. I started trying to find an answer to that and stumbled upon Opera Unite. He couldn't figure out any way to disable it (there might be a way, just not obvious to him) so he uninstalled Opera 10.

Can't say I'm real happy with the new Opera either. Anyway, to enable/disable Opera Unite, see attached thumbnail(1). And then there is this handy new game called guess 'n' check rolleyes Thumbnail(2).

From what I can tell, Opera Unite is disabled by default, so it's a non-issue (to me anyway). It appears to be a way to share media from your PC with other Opera users (or web users regardless of browser?), and therefore turns your PC into a "server" of sorts. Again, not a big deal (to me anyway). But all this "Unite" talk is off topic anyway. LOL

OK- I'm an idiot. :-o I imported my FF bookmarks OK. But where the #*&@# are they???? I can't seem to find 'em anywhere! Opera says "65 items imported successfully". But I can't seem to access 'em. If I click on the "O" in the top left corner, I get the dropdown menu, I then pause on "Bookmarks" and a menu appears with a few bookmarks in it, but NONE of 'em are mine, and there definitely isn't 65! Maybe more like 8 or 10. See screen shots below.... and none of my bookmarks are in any of the Firefox sub-menus either....

Is it also possible that would happen because Opera has built-in torrent capabilities as well? :confused

I dunno dlb. I didn't have any trouble. The imported Fx bookmarks showed up in the NetScape folder when I did it. But that was under v10.00.

How about exporting from Firefox and then try an import to Opera? I know, an extra step that shouldn't have to be taken but I don't think this new version of Opera is working quite right. That second thumbnail I posted up there wasn't a joke.

:-o OK- I'm R E A L L Y an idiot. My bookmarks are in the freakin' Netscape folder! I didn't think to check it 'cuz -well- I have never used Netscape in my entire PC life. Ever. So I'm happy 'cuz all my FF bookmarks are there, but they're not quickly accessible. I have to click the "O", then go to "Bookmarks", then go to "Netscape Bookmarks", then go to "Bookmarks Folder". Jeez. PITA . . . and because I tried 3 different times to import, I now have 3 "Netscape Bookmarks" listings, each with the same info, and I can't remove the 2 extra ones! DOH!!! I think Opera 10.5 needs a bit more work. :( But it REALLY is fast for browsing!!!! (as long as I don't need my Bookmarks! roflmao )

UPDATE: after messing around with some settings, I got things set up OK. See screen shot attached. Still was a MUCH bigger hassle than it should have been. I used the "Personal Bar" to get my Bookmarks to show up as a drop down menu. And I was able to remove the 2 extra "Netscape Bookmarks" lists . . . NOW I'm happy! :-D

Have you tried Lunascape? It's pretty fast too. Using it at the moment with the Gecko engine. I think it's as fast if not faster than Opera v10.51 and smoother too. It's a little quirky on how you have to access the features though. But it's fast.

. . . and just to show that "Unite" is disabled by default, I paused the mouse pointer on the propeller-looking-thingy in the bottom left corner and it reported "Unite disabled" - screen shot attached.

. . . and No, I have never even heard of Lunascape.... I'll give it a go in sometime in the next week or so when I get some time... I'll post my thoughts (if anyone cares!)

(jeez I love screen shots! roflmao )

I just decided to install Opera and take a look at it. The menu sequence for importing Firefox bookmarks was not as you said. What I found was this:

    • Export Firefox bookmarks to an HTML file.
    • Import that file to Opera. To do this:
    o right click on Bookmarks
    o select File
o select Import Netscape/Firefox Bookmarks…; this adds the “Netscape bookmarks as a separate group”.

"Manage Bookmarks" is no where on the Opera menu.

One thing I have discovered that I really do NOT like, is that when I go to my list of Bookmarks, I can't right-click one and choose "Open in new tab" or "Open in new window". Right-clicking on a listed bookmark simply opens the page in the currently open tab, effectively navigating you away from the page that was previously open in that tab. Not cool. I guess the thing to do is open a new blank tab first, then select the bookmark.....

Hmm, it works for me; right clicking on a bookmark and selecting Open in New Tab does just that.

Correction, I later found "Manage Bookmarks" in a different part of Opera's menu structure. So, there are two ways to get to the File | Import Netscape/Firefox Bookmarks commands.
