    Hello,

I have a fairly simple question about partitioning... Is it preferable to to a partition when you just reformated and the hard drive is fresh or it doesnt matter when you actually do it. I have been running XP for over a year and defragged regularly .. I want to do a partition(s) on my 30 Gigs drive (which has about 12 gigs left on it).

Another thing is: what would you reccomend for my partition size(s)

    1 main 20 Gigs (for windows etc..) + 1 X 10 Gigs partition
    or
1 main (XX) Gigs and 2 other small partitions

anyway .. tell me what u think about that,
    thx, Vince

Up to you. You yourself needs to evaluate why you want to do it, and also what size you want.

For example, you don't want your OS partition to be too small, and have it run out of space.

Addtionally, you don't want your partition where programs are kept to do the same.

As for repartitioning this late in the game, you will need a third party app to do it, and there is a chance for data loss, regardless of how safe some apps claim to be.

You also should keep in mind what file systems you wish to use. NTFS will have no problem with a 20GB drive, but FAT32 will be less efficient with a 20GB drive compared to a 10GB one.
