Question about Product Key Changer

    Hello I have a question about the product key changer, I recently bought a used laptop it has the same windows(xp service pack2) as my desktop, Is it possible to change the laptop key and put the one from my desktop:confused: ? or do I need to buy a new key to make it my own? Just trying to find the cheapest way to make it mine. Thanks

    Does your laptop have a Cerificate of Authenticity with the product key printed on it and all the original software? If so, you own that installation and license.

    If you have a retail license for the desktop, you could. It would be a violation of the EULA if the license is OEM (came with the desktop) or if you are still using the desktop with the same product key even if it is a retail license.

    The desktop is from dell and still has all the orignal windows that they installed, as you can tell I dont have a lot of computer smarts, I guess you could say, So I guess I need to go to a retail store and but windows? I just want to make sure everything gets in my name on the laptop, I bought it used from a friend of a friends. Any suggestions on what I should do, first time Ive ever bought a used one, Thanks

    Basically, Windows is sold to the computer it is installed on and only that one. Installing it to another computer would require Microsoft to activate due to a lot of major hardware changes. When you call they will correctly assume that your installing it on another machine. This is how they keep people from pirating Windows.

    So, you basically need a copy of Windows for each machine.
