I have been having a problem lately. I run RegCleaner, then when I try to use the scan on my printer, tells me scan is not installed. I am thinking when I run RegCleaner and I delete all it finds, I am losing this function. Could this be? I have to uninstall my printer, then reinstall it to get it to work again.

Have had to do this a few times now. Is there a way I can find out what I shouldn't delete or whatever so this doesn't happen?

I am running Windows XP Home. Printer is hp psc 2410 photosmart all-in-one.

Thanks for any help. Isn't a big problem, just a pain in the butt...lol

moving this back up. Does anyone know how I can find out what files to not delete or some way of not deleting the ones I use?

Using registry cleaners can be rather tricky. Only you know (or at least you should know) what you have put on your PC. Some items you can tell by looking at them you don't need. For example remnants of applications you know that you uninstalled or items that you recognize by name and you no you do not need them (this can be tricky too).

Basically there is no simple answer for this. That is the reason you did not get one. All that I can say is never ever just go and cleanup everything that a any registry cleaner highlights. You have to look at what is found and make the decision youself on what can be repaired and what should not. That requires some work on your part identifying what the items are that registry cleaner found.

Thanks chaslang. I was hoping there would be an easy way to know which files were for the printer/scanner.

I understand what you are saying. Guess I'll have to look at each one, and play around a little. See if I delete one and have to reinstall printer, I will know not to do that one next time.
    Thanks again.

If you find a line in RegCleaner with a filename and the name does not make it apparent who it belongs too, you can use Windows Explorer to locate the file and right click on it and get Properties info. Look at all the Item names under the version tab. That may help you decide who it belongs too.
