Hello, I was asking Chaslang about reformatting and here is the conversation, can someone explain what he means or how to accomplish this ?

    Thank you very much

No it does not change partitions and there are many forms of partition infections. You need to delete the partitions and then repartition. Then format, then reinstall.

and further questions about this should be posted in the Sofware Forum.

Most new computers have just a single partition which occupies the whole disk. However some new computers have the disk divided into two or more partitions, each partition having its own drive letter and behaving as if it was a separate hard disk. The operating system occupies just one of the partitions so if you reformat and reinstall your Windows on such a machine then only the Windows partition is reformatted, the others are left untouched.

You can see what partitions your machine has by right clicking (My) Computer > Manage > Disk Management, and on Vista/7/8 you can use that screen to delete, create and resize the partitions. On XP you need third party software for that.

Thank you, so if i see two partitions i just got to make sure i delete one and reformat or is it possible to reformat both?

I remember when i reformatted in the past it showed a 100 size partition and a main partition, is that the same thing?

Some OEMs create a small partition to contain the Windows boot files so if that was deleted most likely the system won't boot at all. Many OEMs also create a Recovery partition which is used to set the system back to factory condition. These partitions may or may not appear in My computer but can always be seen in Disk Management.

I'm not sure what problems your system has but as you have very little knowledge of how systems are organised, then despite Chaslang's advice I would caution against making any changes at all to your disk's partition structure.

Perhaps you could tell us what issues you are trying to resolve and someone may be able to help.

I ask questions when i don't understand something , i wanted to know about partitioning and you explained it , if your curious about my computer it's working perfectly, thank you.

The computer in question was my parents and since it is ancient and no security protocol was followed it wasn't worth trying to clean . Thats just not my opinion, thats the opinion of two separate professional computer repair techs as well , both that spent hours with it without much luck.

They both said a very thorough wipe and reinstall was the only way to get it back in functionality.

Yes, it was that bad and many test's the techs tried to run were not working . As i stated in the thread to Chaslang, they were getting rid of it and insisted that stuff be transferred to their new system which i said was nuts.

I always like to ask Chaslang his opinion as he is the most knowledgeable imo of the computer helpers and he has treated me well .

Cleaning was an option maybe way back when their system was still working but now , waste of time.

I had questions about partitioning because i have been given information that differs from what i was told here , when i have talked at length to other people in the know like Shane from Tweaking .com and Seven forums experts they mentioned nothing about partitioning .

Being confused about conflicting data is why i decided to ask the question in the software forum which Chaslang recommended i do , i wanted the most to the point answer.

I didn't need to be sidetracked by someone pulling my post from a different thread and pointing out that Chaslang said i should consider cleaning the system.

Thank you very much Earthling , you explained everything perfectly , have a good day.

After taking some time i realized i made a big mistake, i was overly harsh with Plodr and i apologize for it , thats not me .

Please forgive my uncalled for and unacceptable attitude toward you, i am truly sorry.
