With sli being a rip off making us thinking it was supporting 100 percent effective on the 2nd card" only 40 percent". I kinda realized the motherboards back then were only 8x8x. I just saw a motherboard " 680i" series support 16x16x SLI. Now im wondering since its fully 100 percent or not? If it is 16x16x that means you can sli and have to monsters working together like a dual core processor?

Meaning instead of getting it for a better resolution in games now u wont be outdated so quick? Like say if I sli on a 680i 16x16x board, and had 2 8800 running at uhmmm

    575 core
1700 memory clock effective and plugged another in.

    would it be kinda like

    1150 core?
3400 memory clock? like 1 super card?
and since they both have 96 pixels =192 pixels?

You still don't get 100 percent, but yes, there is a performance increase.

    even with 32x sli?

Show me a 32x sli motherboard.

I had a very different interpretation of this post:

volumeone0686 must mean PCIe x32, which is really just 2 PCIe x16 slots. Which means that they are running at 100% of the slot's bandwidth???? (as opposed to the mobos that had 1 x16 slot, and 1 x8 causing both cards to run at x8)

Even with the cards only working at 8x, they STILL work together "like a dual core processor"... one GPU handles the odd-numbered lines, the other the even-numbered ones.

I have an SLI rig at home running at 8x, and I love it. It's not a rip off. You have to take ALL sales pitches/marketing campaigns with a grain of salt. They'll ALWAYS make you think you're buying something better than you really are. That's their job.

This will be outdated quickly! Of COURSE! There's always something bigger and better on the horizon!

Above is a link to a QUAD GPU SLI rig.... makes single core cards running at x16 look pretty ho-hummmm.... rolleyes

r u sure? i think 680i is the only board to support it right now well the newer boards.

nice 2 1950 barely beat 1 8800....but how? its 32x now....... does anyone know how much more u get with 32x? instead of just 16x on 2 cards?

Once again, please show me a 32x32 board.

Toms doesn't seem to mention if they are using 8x8 or 16x16.

I'd bet they are using 16x16.

Other factors limiting SLI (a huge one ), is how the game is coded.

Some take no advantage, some take less than others.

As mentioned before, the whole badnwidth with PCIe thing is hardly the only factor.

Kind of like DDR vs SDRAM, or RDRAM, dual vs single channel, etc.

There are performance increases, but its not as simple as saying, "its double the bandwidth, therefore double the performance."

Remember AGP? AGP 8x did not provide double the performance of 4x.

How about 3dfx? Two voodoo 2's SLI'ed did not double performance.

PCIe x32 IS JUST 2 PCIe x16 slots!!! This board only has 2 PCIe x16 slots! Read the specs!
IT'S JUST MARKETING MATH! DON'T FALL FOR IT AGAIN!!! It's like saying a 2.8GHz dual core CPU runs at 5.6 GHz. It's a sales ploy!!!!!!!

    LOL
You're already pissed at SLI! Don't let 'em fool you twice!

Mada_Milty uses so few words, yet makes every one of them quite effective ;)
