Question about trsfering files form a old pc to a new one

    I dont know if i posted this in the right form. Is there anyway i can transfer files form my old pc to my new one. They both have USB and Fire Wire. If you need more info let me know and thanks for your help :)

    Yes but its much easier if they both have network cards, then you can use a crossover cable. If thats an option i can explain further.

    Yes they both have Network Cards. Can i just take the HD out of my old pc and put it into a External HD case? Any other ideas

    Yea you can do that, thats way easier if its an option and that way you have a extra storage space now.

    But its got Windows XP instated on it and i would like to use it again on my old pc will it affect it?

    I mean do i like haft to format it or will it just work with my new pc?

    my way of transferring files: burn files to DVD, rip onto other computer

    not most efficient but its simple enough if you have the capability to burn DVDs on the one computer and read them on the other. You can use CDs too but they have much less capacity...

    Its got a problem with the CD Bunner and does not burn dvd's :( any other ideas?

    Or how do i do the crossover cable? Will it just work with a standered
    Ethernet cable

    Sorry for posting so many times on the topic. can i use a A to A USB Cable?

    I just networked 2 PCs toghther using Firewire. (6 pin to 6 pin - cost less than £3 off ebay).
    Connect the cable, go to network connections in control panel, set it up from there. In My Computer, right click the drive you want to share with the other computer, and you can access it from the other one.
