My brother-in-law's computer is having issues starting up. It's gets so far during boot up, then basically restarts itself again always in the same loop. His computer was having issues starting up at all last week, so I brought to a local computer shop and had them look at it. He said it's the Motherboard and replaced it. Brought teh computer back to my brother-in-law and it ran fine yesterday. He left it on last night and went to bed. Came back upstairs this morning and his computer was off. Now it won't start up and is caught in that loop I mentioned.

Okay, now for the question, can I use my XP Home disk to basically run a repair on his copy of windows XP? His computer didn't come with a copy of XP, hence the reason why I am asking. I am thinking that maybe right now there is a start up file corrupt and that's the reason why it's stuck in a loop.

You can try to do that, but sometimes because XP is so silly about only running on one machine it may block you. Also, depends on if yours is an OEM copy or not. You can give it a try, maybe it will work. I think if it were me, if that doesn't fix the problem, I'd take it back to the shop that put the new motherboard in and tell them to fix it right this time! It maybe the power supply or something else is bad in it, and they should have checked it out better when they had it. Just a thought.

With the previous post in mind ....can you get into safe mode and see if it stays stable for the day?
