    I have XP Pro SP2 on my home PC. The files from My Pictures are now being listed in Display Properties/Desktop. They weren't listed here the last time I changed my wallpaper which was maybe 3 weeks ago. It's not a big deal, but I simply do not want the stuff in My Pictures to show up in the list of available wallpapers. If I want something in the wallpaper list, I generally copy it to C:\Windows\Web\Wallpaper. So, I how do I prevent the files in My Pictures from being listed in my desktop wallpaper list?

    Thanks!

    OK.... this is my last bump on this. I've tried searching via Google, but I can't seem to get a good search term that succinctly sums up my question. The things I have found generally apply to adding or using the files from "My Pictures" to the available wallpapers and nothing explains how to remove the files that are currently in "My Pictures" from being listed as available wallpaper. I don't want to remove the stuff in "My Pictures", I just don't want the pictures listed as being available wallpaper choices in Display Properties > Desktop. The thing is, they weren't listed until just recently.

    Hi dlb

    Have a look at this from Ramesh a fellow MVP on this http://windowsxp.mvps.org/background.htm as you'll need to really create a new folder for your personal pics or ones you dont want in the Wallpaper background display options.

    Also check by unhiding files that you have a desktop.ini file with the below in it in My Pictures folder if not then copy and paste another desktop.ini file into the My Pictures folder and delete the data already in it then paste the below into it, bold bit needs changing to your user name.

    [DeleteOnCopy]
    Owner=Name Here
    Personalized=39
    PersonalizedName=My Pictures
    [.ShellClassInfo]
    InfoT...@Shell32.dll,-12688
    IconFile=%SystemRoot%\System32\mydocs.dll
    IconIndex=-101

    Thanks for the link and info.... I'll check it out when I have a bit more time. But why would the stuff from "My Pictures" just now show up in the wallpaper list? It wasn't there until recently. I had a bit of a codec meltdown and had to remove/reload a bunch of codecs and some of the media file associations were changed in the process (VLC was the default media player for video files with the orange cone icon, but after the codec issue Nero Showtime took over but that's not a big deal). Could this have something to do with 'My Pictures' now being listed in the wallpapers?

    Hi dlb

    Could possible be that if you have used an images that was in your My Pictures folder so that the MRU ( Most Reciently Used ) link is still grabbing your My Pictures folder, so to remove that link you could try this from Kellys Place and delete the MRU ( line 144 Clear Wallpaper Most Frequently Used List http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm ) its a reg entry to clear that MRU.
