Question about Windows System Startup

I have a question about Windows OS's System Startup Menu. My system seems to do a double bootup of the desktop when I boot up the system, and it irritates me because I know that it is wasting time doing something that it only has to do once.

Basically it seems to me that the initial Desktop boot occurs too soon, before the system bootup tones have even started to sound. The desktop appears, and the tones sound, then the desktop reboots again. How can I get to the system startup menu to see if it is doing things twice that it should not?

Is there actually a way to bring up a text file of the the boot process menu to see what the system is being instructed to do?Thanks for your help.

Well, since you can't boot, there are a few options to try.....

Boot into recovery mode and run:

    chkdsk /r c:

Or, just try a repair installation of XP.

You must have been reading someone else, TF, I never said I couldn't boot, I want to see if the computer is double booting the desktop at startup. Is there a way to bring up the system startup menu and see what commands the system is getting?

If I can, I want to smooth out some rough spots in the boot process if I can. I need to see what is happening and see if there are changes that can be made to improve the performance. An unnessisary reboot of a system already booted would just make the bootup take longer and waste time. Does anyone know about the XP bootup, and how to check to see what is happening during that process? Thanks

ARgh, you are right! I was wondering why, after I posted my answer the original thread didn't have my post.

I know you have posted here (100+ posts). But, I need to be reminded what OS, ram, HDD size (and HDD space available) you have.

OK, TF, My OS is WindowsXP Home Edition, My harddrive is (1) Samsung SPO411N 40GB of total space, with 18.2 GB of Free space, and (2)Western Digital WDC WD2500UB 250 GB of total space, and 231 GB of free space.

The Samsung is the Main drive with the OS installed, and the WD is the Secondary.

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner, been sort of tied up. Thanks ;)
