Is there a command that can be run from the WinXP Pro command prompt (not in the Recovery Console, but from a command prompt window in XP) that shows how much hard drive space is used, and how much is free? Why do I want to know? Does it matter? LOL

    Thanks!

(I need to take a screenshot of the command prompt window and including the hard drive space used/space free would be helpful)

Linux I know; XP, I'm clueless.

I found this answer by Neil Reubenking
The Command Prompt in Windows XP and Vista isn't any variety of DOS, though it very strongly resembles the DOS box from Windows 9x. And, just like that old DOS box, it offers you a list of available commands when you simply enter help. Of course, that list scrolls past quickly, so you'll want to save it to a file using the command help > commands.txt. Now you can refer to the Commands.txt file any time.

I also looked through the commands here
    http://www.computerhope.com/msdos.htm
    and here
    http://www.ss64.com/nt/
but didn't find anything that seemed like it would show what you want.

Not sure at all if this would help you. Is Windows XP Commands the same as command prompt? If so, here's a link, seeing FREEDISK (check free disk space in bytes) and DIRUSE (Display disk usage) http://www.ss64.com/nt/

Be sure to read the very bottom of the page.

Well if the above doesn't help you for your query, you'll still have a list of all the commands. Just think of it that I just tried to help you and disregard this post.

Hello, I have Windows XP Pro, and I just go to :
My Computer> C disk> Properties, and it shows both the used space and free space... Hope that is what you were looking for, if not, check back in and let us know... ;)

Yeah- I know how to check free space and space used... I wanted to do it from the command prompt...
@ oma: neither command works in a command prompt window, but they probably work in the Recovery Console command prompt....
    Thanks anyway...
    :-D
