Hey all, thanks in advance for any advice..

Here's the situation. I've got an aging mobo (ASUS a7n8x-deluxe, bios 2008) with all new parts on it now, and just recently, the ram has been acting up. Random reboots and the like.. so, I used MemTest 3.3, and sure enough, the Random Number Pattern test would fail every time. So, I purchased some brand new sticks, threw them in the same slots (2 of 3 available), and get the same problem.

Those of you familiar w/ the a7n8x, know that there is both Single Channel and Dual Channel available, depending on which slots you put the 2 sticks. So, I pulled one stick and went to testing each slot individually, and there were no problems with any of them. I also put 2 sticks in the Single Channel configuration slots, and there also doesn't seem to be any problems. The only time I get errors is when the memory is in the Dual-Channel configuration slots, which sucks b/c I want the extra speed of the Dual-Channel settings, and also to throw in the one old stick that was still good for a total of 3gb of RAM.

Question to y'all is this. What the hell could cause this to happen? I had 2 gigs working great in Dual-Channel mode for a looooong time, and all of a sudden, it just doesn't. Do ya think something fried on my mobo to not allow dual-channel to function properly? I'm really sick of throwing money at this aging machine, and I can't afford a new DX10 rig right now, so I'm stuck fixing this, whatever the problem. Any advice will be much appreciated! Thanks a lot.

    System Specs:
    ASUS a7n8x-deluxe (BIOS 2008)
    2 gb Ballistix PC4000
    AMD Athlon XP 3200+
    ATI Radeon x1950 PRO 512gb
    All drivers are current.

EDIT: After further testing, I've discovered that using 2 x 1gb sticks in any configuration gets errors. Still, using just one stick in any slot works fine, so I at least know that none of the RAM slots are defective. What else can it be?

No one has any ideas for me? Really? ;) Is there a way to test the slots to see why it won't work w/ 2 sticks? Volt readings or something? I'm looking everywhere and no websites seem to have anything relative to this problem. Please help!

EDIT: Also *smacks self*... BIOS is version 1008, not 2008.. lol..

Is the new ram on the Asus list of supported ram?
Have you run the tests with the single sticks of ram at a time?
If you can say yes to bith those questions, and it is a socket 462 machine, then I suspect the motherboard memory controller has developed a fault.

It can be worth trying a different power supply, in case it has become a bit dicky, and is causing the memory read to error.

PSU is brand new, and more than capable, so that's not it.

Baklogic, yes I've used each stick one at a time, in every slot, with no resulting errors. Only time I get errors is when using more than one stick. Yes the RAM is on ASUS list of compatibility. So it seems like I need a new motherboard then? Or is there some way I've never heard of to fix a memory controller? lol..

Thanks for the help! Keep it coming!
