Question- not sure if this is the right place

My work place uses AOL to get online. It recently started beeping when I log off. I know it didn't used to do that, so I'm guessing someone changed something. I don't have any sound on that computer. It sounds like the beep is coming from the computer itself? I tried looking in aol options, settings- internet options, and other stuff and didn't find anything I thought would help. Any advice on how to turn it off, or where I should post this if this is the wrong place?

Well I've never used AOL but here goes.

Could be a system sould or a moden beep.

1) System

Control Panel => Sounds + Audio Devices => Sounds. Takes a look down the list and see if there's anything there that could be to do with logging of sound.

2) Modem


I don't know whether what robo said works or now. I'll just guess that that AOL option works. If not, then it's a bit of a pain - deep in the control panel somewhere about 10 windows in you have to type ATM0, can't remember where as I don't have a 56m modem in here. If you need it, it's
here under the bottom paragraph.

And if those two don't work then I've no idea

 

Can you describe these diabolical beeps. Are they consistant or random beeps?

it is just one beep when I log off. I think it could be in the modem- I don't get any other sound on this pc. I will definitely try the things you've suggested. Thanks again- you are the best!
(They know when I log on, but I don't want them to know how long I stay here)
