Question on av's

I downloaded bitdefender free edition. I noticed it does not have a virus shield. Hence I got a virus by clicking on a bad link. I think I got the virus gone now. Are there any programs that would work for real time file scanning. In conjunction with bitdefender?

does avast have an automated scanning function? I can't seem to find it anywhere if it does!

 

If by 'automated scanning' you mean scheduled scans, Avast Home (the free one) does not have that feature. It does have resident (real time) and email scanning protection, and a handy boot-time scanner that you can schedule for next boot. The pro version has more features and is on my list of things to buy.

 

Yes, I mean scheduled scans. I like to know if it finds anything. I have used avg free before, but I have had problems with the updating. Now I am looking for other alternitives. I also am doing this for reserch for work, we send along a list of antivirus (free&not) plus firewall software with me on every dsl install I do. I give that to the cust. so they will be better informed. That is why I am testing also. I just ran out of my NOD32 subscription, so if I were to pay for an av, it would be NOD32 for sure, I just love that prog.

I just installed AVG, wondering if it checks in real time? Like if I open a file with a virus in it, will it let me open it up? I love the e-mail checking and the scheduled scans in avg!
