I just did a bandwith test and my results were: 1552.6 kbits and 193.8kbytes. My package is 1.5/384. My kbits seem right but are my kbytes? Shouldn't it be like 384.8 kbytes instead of 193.8, since thats what my package offers?

My guess is that the second value is the upload speed in kbits. DSL providers generally give less upload bandwidth than download for a reason I ignore, and a 384 kbit upload speed would sound about right for a 1.5 mbit download.

Therefore, your connection would be: 1.5 mbit download/384 kbit upload.

    Just my $0.02.

Try DSL/Cable bandwidth speed tests at a variety of sites and times-of-day, and you'll get different results. It can depend, too, on how busy a test server is when you use it.

Just adding on to my post... Check out www.speedtest.nl for a speed test of both your upload and download speed in kbps and Kbyte/sec, to test my theory. I know it's in Dutch but you should be fine using it.

RE: "Also 1.5 down usually has 256k up."

I take your point but it also depends widely, partly also on how the ISP 'rounds' their connection speed - there is no set standard. For example my provider doesn't count in multiples of 128, it rounds to 600 instead of 512 and so on... with corresponding bandwidth. The rumour is that it was to make DSL more competitive as Cable was getting cheaper. What I was trying to say is that 384 sounds in the right area for an upload speed, and it is also 256 + 128 coincidentially. Not trying to pick up a fight or anything.

Well good news my upload speed is a hell of alot of faster. On file sharing programs people now download off me at like 60kbs a second and before it they would download ff me at like 20 kbs a second. I can aslo send stuff on AIM ALOT faster to. :)
