Question on IE8

I read/heard somewhere before that IE8 is not the best and has problems, and to leave IE7 and not do the update. Reading through the threads here I'm getting a different opinion, have the problems now been fixed?

Should I do the IE8 update? My main browser right now is Firefox.

Windows does use certain aspects of IE whether or not you enable it or run it, it's tied into Help and, I think, other areas of Windows.

I'd update to IE8 for security reasons - run MSConfig and create a new Restore Point beforehand, check you have a fully working Backup too

 

I've seen problems with it, blocking web-sites, sluggish behavior.

But when it installs and you use it for the first time, you will be given a set-up menu and if you say no or decline ALL of the options, (accelerators, filters, updaters, etc), then it works just fine.

I haven't spent the time to determine just which features are causing problems, I just install it and say no to all choices. You can always reenable any feature you want later. Haven't had a problem since!:wave:wave

 

Going back to a time soon after it's release, I installed IE 8 on my Win XP system and experienced very sluggish performance with it. I uninstalled and stayed with IE 7 for some months after that. Just a few weeks ago, I installed IE 8 again and, this time, did not experience the sluggishness I experienced the first time I installed it. So, it seems the early problems were resolved by Microsoft.

I'd follow brandypeppy's advice on how to respond to the initial setup options.
