Question on P2P Programs

What is the best p2p programs do they have out there . that does not have any virus in it or can get get a virus in it. can some one list some please.

 

To be honest over a 10 year span n lots of p2p programs i find myself coming back to 2 Limewire.
Most people who talk **** about it don't know how to read mp3 file sizes or extensions n usually DL a risky file.
Any mp3 u download should be carefully examined but for the most part it is safe n i have read on a p2p rating site (Can't remember where) that LW was indeed very safe.

U just need to make sure that u don't have alot of random people using the computer n DLing from it as it's not really the best idea n just basically stay away from anything but mp3 files, I only DL mp3s so im good to go...

I downloaded Kazaa light one time and got hit with a serious virus, almost couldn't recover my pc. I would go with a reputable program and pre-scan everything before you open it.

 

Mainly For Movies .etc...

 

We can't really encourage the pirating of movies (or anything else) over the internet and it may have been a really good idea to have left that out of the thread. Kazaa and Limewire are fairly famous for being the source of malware via their downloads, but I think a lot of that has to do with what people are downloading, or what they're clicking on at the P2P host sites. Many of those banner ads (like "you are visitor #999,999!!! Click here for your free laptop!" for example) are malware installers. Plus the legality of the whole P2P thing is a bit shady. Many assume that just because someone is involved in file sharing that they are breaking the law. This is not so. There are pleanty of legitimate P2P applications: sharing home-made movies with family; many bands freely release singles and EPs via P2P; many Linux distros are available via P2P. Anyway, to the topic at hand.... I personally like uTorrent, the older versions. I have heard there is some trouble with v1.8 and some sites have blocked it's use, so use 1.77 or an older release. I like the "ancient" 1.6.1 for reasons I won't go into here. Azureus is popular too, and Shareaza is good for all types of downloads including P2P, as is FlashGet. But those two are ad-supported if I'm not mistaken. Here's some links if you're interested:

Absolutely! The four apps I listed above I have used personally at one time or another, and I have never had any trouble with any them being malware infected. They're clean. As I mentioned before, FlashGet and Shareaza are (to the best of my knowledge, but I could be wrong) ad-supported. Meaning that the publishers/creators receive funding via the selling of ad space (I think). However, this doesn't mean they will infect your PC. Like I said, I have used 'em, and I never had any infections (I have uninstalled them all as I don't really use P2P much for anything anymore, but when I do, I use uTorrent 1.6.1). As to the "pre-scan everything" comment: again, 100% right on! P2P has become a magnet for unsavory types and their unsavory programs. It is not unusual for a virus to be on a P2P site as "the newest Harry Potter movie!!!" and after it's downloaded, the user tries to watch it, and BAM! They get flooded with malware. So be very careful.
