Question on PCIe

So Im just questioning the whole PCIe thing. My video card says, x2 but I was wondering what the whole x16 thing is, is that like the maximum setting it can go to, or am I just confusing myself. I read through this site http://www.viperlair.com/articles/editorials/pcie/ trying to understand the whole deal. Isn't running at x2 inefficeint compared to running at x16? Or is that not possible, someone set me straight

what mobo do you have?

 

What motherboard have you got? Maybe it supports up to 2x.
That video card surely is Pci-Express 16x

What's the main difference between the 6600GT and 6600 other than that the 6600 doesn't support SLI?

 

The 6600 does support SLI.
I'm not sure what the exact differences are.
One I know is GDDR3 memory is available in 6600GT and not in 6600.

I think his motherboard only supports 2x instead of 16x but i guess we won't know untill he responds. I own a 7800GT also. One Sweet card!!!!

Mav3rik, have you had any problems with nvidia's 6000 series? I've heard that a lot of people had problems with the 6000 series. I'm thinking about running dual 6800gt's in my wife's computer. Wise choice or not so much?

No problems at all. My 6600GT runs smooth and rocks. But then again, my mobo kicks ass too so, dunno really, maybe tehre are problems in others.
Although I wouldn't mind owning a 7800gt

my wife has really gotten into gaming. I made the mistake of teaching here about computers and i started playing counter strike with her and now she's addicted. I let her family borrow my xbox, and that didn't help, because while i'm working she's playing xbox. Now she wants to play computer games. The games i have won't run on her system so i'm bringing her up to my level so she can play them!!!

Engaged actually but it's just easier for me to say wife than fiance. We're gonna get married soon, but i'm getting things prepared before we do, like a house that i'm getting either this month or next month. I know it sounds crazy, but i'm happier than i've ever been.

About the dual 6800's, there isn't really a reason i'm just getting something that i won't have to do a whole lot of upgrading to in the future, plus i haven't ever had an sli motherboard before so it gives me a chance to study up on the technology.

They have shipping you know. I live in Missouri in a town full of hillbillies. It sucks pretty bad.

 

A cousin of mine got married when he was 18. Now he's 35, still married, 2 kids, and happy afaik.

Lol, I know, but I didn't even checked if they shipped abroad, because it didn't think it was worth it given the extra shipping and taxes fees. I've got plenty of computer hardware stores in my region.

If you're unsure of what your motherboard is, or what it supports, then download EVEREST, and attach the log. (don't copy and paste, only attach please)

 

You may have the card in the wrong PCI slot and thus only getting 2 x PCIe but we wont know until you give us some more info!
