Hey everyone, i'm new to the forum and i'm at the end of my ropes here. I was basically wondering what or how I would go about hooking up an LED to the phone line so that when the phones ringing in another room, the LED will let you know in the room your in. So far i've hooked up an LED to the telephone line and it doesnt let the house phone ring, it only goes straight to voicemail. Any help would be much appreciated!

    Thanks

Your probably hooking it in parallel instead of series "I'M GUESSING",cut just one wire and let the juice flow through the LED instead of connecting both ends of the LED to two different coloured wires.

    Try this

    ----------------------
    ----------------------
    ----------------------
    --- - ..LED.. + -----

    Instead of:

    ----------------------
    |-
    LED
    |+
    -----------------------

This second one will bridge the Ringer like the phone is always down as you are describing, depends on your country and phone line ect.

    Welcome to the forum :)

Just to be on the safe side, I would test this by bridging the phone line between the wall socket and connector and installing the LED in the bridge, before you cut up your phone cable.

Better yet open a phone up and run some wires from the ringer, you want that wired in parallel or ringer will be quiet.
