I have many DVD's that have videos and movies that I want to edit. Nothing complicated, just basically wanting to remove junk segments from too long shows and combining smaller clips into one larger video. I have a DVDR, but I have never done this before. I'm running XP home on a 1gig samsung.

Any basic, cheap programs (easy to learn) that can do this?

One application that I know can be used to edit movies in DVD format is Adobe Premiere Elements. However, it can only do this if the DVDs are not copy protected. If they're not, it's straightforward enough and should yield good results. If they are copy protected, well, that might venture into what could be compared to a sort of "Don't mention the war" type situation in that moral and legal implications come into play.
Removing the copy protection from DVDs (ripping) is illegal in some countries, and not illegal in others. If it is legal where you are, you might look at some software called DVD decrypter, or for more into, there's a site called videohelp.com which specializes in this subject, amongst others.
