Question regarding partition installed software.

I had a question regarding partition installed software.

I have have 2 hard drives in my machine. I installed my OS on C: and my programs/games on D:

If C: crashes or I reinstall the OS it breaks all my installs on D:. How can I fix those without reinstalling the software if its even possible to do so?

Correct, I understand that I was just wondering if there was a registry fix/workaround or if I had to reload all software.

Well, I suppose you could make a backup of your registry now and try it then....not promising it will work. Thing is, even if it did work, you are going to have to backup everytime you load a new app.

Ah I c, so if its already crashed and I refreshed my C:\ then I am screwed

To Be Honest yes you are screwed to a point!

The C: OS drive houses the registry which it turn keeps track of all programs locations and various compontents to those programs, so if you loose your C: OS drive then anything thats been installed to the D: drive will not have any registry entries so is liable to crashing or failing... you basically need to re-install those apps

Personally I install all apps to the C: drive apart from Antivirus and Firewall as most virii do search to disable AV/FWfrom the root C: drive... so its possible that its safer having those apps on a 2nd 3rd HD.

Haha nice,

Well this happened but not to me. A guy at work gave me his pc to fix and then I realized this was the problem. I had never tried something like that before and I was unsure if the fix existed.
