Hi there,Yes i'm a newbie so i'll make it brief.I have read the tutorial regarding removing spyware etc.Just a quick question, where it says to disenable "System Restore" then scan/remove any spyware etc.
1: Right click on the My Computer icon on your desktop and select properties.
2: Click on the system restore tab.
3: Check the box that says "Turn off system restore on all drives". Click OK.
4: Click Yes when you are prompted to restart the computer
5: To re-enable System Restore, follow steps 1-3, but in step 3, click to clear the Disable System Restore check box.
When i went to disenable a message came up saying.
"You have chosen to turn off system restore,if you continue all existing restore points will be deleted and you will not be able to track or undo any changes to your computer.Do you want to turn of system restore? Yes/No"

Is this just a routine message, that is shown whenever turning off system restore?Or could turning it of harm my computer?I am running Window XP and currently trying to remove a hijacked/redirected homepage.

Thanks for your time.Any help is much appreciated

That's correct. You loose all previous restore points but you do not want them if you are having malware problems because they could contain backups of the malware. You could spend a lot of time fixing up all your problems and then use an infected system restore point one day and bring back all of your problems again.

System Restore doesn't work anyways, I rather use the Atomatic System Recovery Console......All system restore does is take up lots of hard drive space and memory to run it. It's better if you turned it off anywayz....but that is just ThisChick

Bad advice. It works fine! You just need to know how to use it.
