Question: storing copy of reg. Acronis True Image

I'd like to take advantage of the MG pricing deal for Acronis True Image, but I am a bit concerned about the usable lifespan of a downloaded copy stored on CD or DVD.

I have read that often, material that was 'home' burned on removeable media becomes unusable after about two years or more.

Before I purchase a copy, I wanted to find out if there is a way to get a 'professionally' burned (or stamped - whatever it is) disk.

Maybe I'm being a little bit too paranoid, but that's how I am.

Can someone clear this up for me so I can go ahead and buy this before the deal expires?

    Thanks

There is no need to worry about losing your copy of Acronis True Image, as you will always be able to re-download it from your Acronis user account.

    Thankx for the reply, markj.

Do I need to purchase the Extended Download Service?

The Terms and Conditions of that service state that it is only available
within one year of the original purchase.

It seems reasonable, though, that you should be able to re-download at
any time if you are a registered user.

Yes, unfortunately the availability of your purchase will not last forever without purchasing extended download service.

One good and free way of storing your digital purchase online, which I can think of, is to send the True Image installation file to your online email account like Google Mail :) File will need to be cut in 20MB pieces though, which is currently a maximum attachment size for Google Mail.

    Hi

I tend to keep the downloadable installers on a slave HD in main PC and on a External HDD and on a re-writable CD/DVD, which every 6 months or so re-burn to a new CD/DVD RW the small collection of important apps like Acronis TI.

While I've had no issues with online storage and had files for years on some, its not a media thats in your control, so personally I wouldnt rely on it fully, have alternates too, but IIRC Acronis support are good in giving you a new download link if you loose your installer, so long as you have serial and proof of purchase.

    @cr.Gena
I have no problem with downloading from Acronis.
My question was about storing the download once I got it.
I bought the software directly through the link on the
Major Geeks home page, which took me directly to RegNow.
    Everything went smoothly.
Got a printed copy of the receipt and sale confirmation page.

    @Halo
Hello, and thanks for the reply.
I have made a couple of verified CD copies but they are not RW.
I use Nero to make a multi-session backup, although that may not
work since the file won't change.
Anyway, CDs are cheap. I try to get Verbatim on sale.

I just bought a Western Digital My Book Essential external USB HD.
Have not yet opened the box.
Don't know if I want to keep it??
Some people have gotten good service from those while others have
    experienced early drive failures.
I don't intend to use it as a portable - it wasn't designed for that.

I'll try to remember to refresh those backups periodically or just make
    fresh copies.

    Thanks
    mjc
