Well I had no clue where to put this... So I'll put it here. XD
Well don't get me wrong.... I'm not asking anyone to teach me or anything...
I was just wondering, how did you guys learn to read the logs? Did you go to college? Or did you just pick it up over time?

i learned it (sorta) by looking at logs that are posted then looking at what people who realy know what they are looking at and i start looking at what they say and knowing what files and drivers are of the proper type /for correct hardware ,software etc........etc it doesnt take a major geek
;) to know that if you have nvidia drivers and have a ati radion vid card or 2 anti virus running at same time to know something is amiss, much deeper then that i cant help much other then learining what processees should NOT be there by knowing what seems to be not the norm after you know what processes are normaly running and what and why some are using using high recource amounts.
but thats the learning curve, and im behind the curve as i dont even pretend to know a fraction of what the real helpers do for us every day..also knowing offhand what driver versions are avaiablef or your system helps,(if it might be a driver type issue)...good luck....but that how i got above "hes real stupid": to just "stupid"

    Hi

Depends what logs you wish to learn more about, you have Malware logs which cover a variety of different scanners, to Hardware, Software error logs,

Malware logs, well TBH in first place you need a fairly good understanding of how the Operating System and other Softwares interact with it, but alot of the training in interpreting these logs is through being trained by someone who is already an expert, but you can with hard work learn to do this yourself as their are many guide online to just reviewing what the experts in malware removal do. BUT much better with an expert to train you as many Malware removal forums have training programs.

Hardware logs (Everest, Belarc etc) are not too bad to learn about, so that you can help others with generally Driver issues, as majority of the time via the logs your looking for the PC maker if its OEM (like DELL, HP etc) or the Motherboard maker (like ASUS, Gigabyte etc) as the drivers needed will be on one of those sites, if a Graphic Card and not a laptop one (if laptop, see Laptop makers driver and support site for those) then the driver is likely to be either Nvidia or ATi.

Software Error logs, a fair bit harder to diagnose as you need to also know some background info to the users issue and maybe some other software they have installed, as mentioned 2 Antivirus applications can cause issue. But the main help here is that you need to gain the error message and any codes the error gives verbatim as Microsoft have an extensive Knowledge Base (KB) which can be searched for the code and potential fix.

In the end depending on what logs you wish to interpret, its all about getting as much information from the user, especially if troubleshooting via the internet on a forum like this as we cannot just use our knowledge to type away quickly to find the info needed or see the errors first hand, so its a "help me to help you" joint effort.

Like everything else, it takes willingness to learn, dedication, and lots of work studying.

I learnt reading logs and other things like blogs through my work I currently work for the tech guys at pcworld lol.

But its easy once you get hold of it.
