I have a 3 pin CPU fan plugged into a 4 pin header. Is there any way I can control the speed of the fan?

I've tired speedfan and I can control my case fans but not my CPU fan.

  2. Your BIOs? Does that not have some fan control options?

You could also try a front bay fan controller?

It does but doesn't seem to work with the CPU fan.

  4. What CPU fan are you using?

    A Noctua NF-B9 92mmA

  6. Would a front 3.5" bay fan controller not do the trick for you?
Why do you want to control the fan speed? Just curious.

I may just buy a fan controller.

I want to control it as i don't need to have it max rpm all the time.

  8. Well a nice front bay fan controller will do the trick :)

You can sometimes change your BIOS settings in the Hardware Monitoring" section to make the Fan rpm scale with CPU heat. What's your mobo again?

Personally a constant Fan becomes less noticeable than a fan that cycles up an down to heat.

Well I have Asus Q-fan and that doesn't seem to control my CPU fan

My mobo is a Asus P5Q-E

Weird I have the P5WDH Deluxe (the missus does now ;)) and it has AI Quiet in the Hardware Monitoring section whereas your manual doesn't offer this in the BIOS?

Well my Mobo has Q-fan. It works with the case fans but not the cpu fan. I turn it on for the cpu fan and silent but my cpu fan still spins at max rpm. I think it's because the 4th wire is missing.

    Hi All,

Just out of curiosity, is that "header" hanging off the power supply or on the motherboard. Both possiblities have already been suggested.

    Luck, Jim
