Questions About A New 3 Terabyte Drive And Memory

Hi geniuses,

I have 8 gig of ram and it shows up as "8 gigabyte (3 usable)". So is 5 gig twiddling its thumbs or whats going on

Also I bought a 3 terabit sata drive I have only owned 1 terabit. It set itself up using around 800 gig. I fiddled with it and got it to extend itself to around 2000 gig but still have 700 or so unused and it computer management I cant seem to get it to even become a usable volume.

Surely I can get it to be a 3 terabit volume or near that?

It's formatted as an MBR disk. MBR disks can only access 2TB. If you want to access 3TB you need to reformat the disk as GPT which will only be possible if you have a UEFI motherboard.

 

Regarding your memory problem I found this -

Start > type msconfig in box > enter key > select boot tab > select Advanced options > make sure "Maximum memory:" check box is unchecked > OK > Apply > OK. Reboot.

I can't replicate your problem and so test it myself but it did work for the OP. Good luck !

 

This computer is in bits in a box now and I didn't get around to attempting to fix it but I have never forgotten how much help was offered by Major geek geniouses so I am replying with a big heartfelt thank you to the "G's" who took the time to help me.
